Has anyone noticed that during Ruben Studdard's homecoming tour, most of his fans were black, with a decent amount of white people mixed in--but the main point to realize is that Ruben is black, thus has a large black fan base.

Now that Bo is currently on his homecoming tour (since he is one of the Final Three contestants on American Idol), most of his fans are white. In all the TV coverage you see, the crowds are largely white with an inkling of blacks here and there.

Kinda interesting to see how pop cultures moves down racial lines, though that's not a new revelation or anything--just pointing it out.

Okay, LJ. Go ahead and call me a racist.
most of the reason is that bo lives in an area that is predominantly white while ruben was from a black area of town. when they hold stuff at you home town that skews who is there. i would say at least 75% of the people who showed up for ruben at legion field were white.

if you look at pop culture hip hop is huge with a lot of white kids. look at the fat guy from cleveland he didnt talk like his parents he was trying to sound black.

there was a great history class at uab in the past called pop culture in american history. most of the time we listened to music. it was great if its still offered you should take it.
Bo Jackson? Best damn athlete I ever saw.

Bo Derek? Stunningly georgeous, even at 50

Beau Brummel? Snappy dresser

Bo Duke? An insult to average intelligence.

Bosephus? Redneck Rock! 04-rock
it's spelled Bocephus
Hey, what's wrong with them Duke Boys.......

03-lol

yeeeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I wonder how many Dodge Chargers they destroyed making those jumps?

I think that "Joe" fat kid was half white/half black, actually...LOL 03-razz

But yeah, you're right.
I agree with ATTALLA. There was nothing wrong with the Dukes of Hazzard.

His name is Scott Savol and he was white. His wife is black or half-black or something like that I believe, but he himself is just white to my knowledge.

Don't misunderstand. I'm not insulting the show. Heck, I could watch American cars get demolished in backwoods GA all day.

I'm just saying that it's Bo whose the insult to the average intelligence. Everyone knows Luke was the smart one. Bo was just eye-candy for the women.

Speaking of eye-candy, God bless Catherine Bach.
I don't believe I ever paid enough attention to the dialogue to know whether Bo or Luke was the smarter one.

Ever watch the show?

It was one of the most visually (if not mentally) stimulating shows on the air.

Between the obligatory demolition derby and Catherine Bach (the original Daisy Duke) it was a veritable feast for the eyes.

I tried to include a picture, but I apparently lack that skill.
TRIVIA!!!!! What movie was The Dukes of Hazzard based on?

"Eat My Dust", starring Ron Howard and the guy who played Mr. Kincaid on the Partridge Family. And, of course, that car.

Ron Howard is some high school putz trying to impress a girl, so he steals a racecar belonging to Mr. Kincaid. Wild chases and hijinx ensue.

What do I win?

nothing because you are wrong. try again.
I always loved when the General Lee jumped a ditch, a creek or whatever, then Roscoe would try - and he'd crash.

My favorite character on the show, though, may have been Cooter.

A collage (clockwise from top left): The General Lee; Bo, Daisy and Luke Duke; the cast - Deputy Enos Slate, Flash (Roscoe's dog) and Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane in the front with Boss Hogg, Uncle Jesse and Cooter in the back; Boss Hogg, Daisy and Roscoe; Bo and Roscoe.

I personally liked the other Enos better.

How about Smokey and the Bandit?

eat my dust was a 1976 film. the first true dodge charger was a 1966 model year ( I am not including the 1965 Dodge Dart upgrade that was called Charger). sorry no partial credit there. keep trying. I'll give you a cant miss clue on tuesday if no one gets it.
More Dukes of Hazzard notes...

On January 26, 1979, CBS aired for the first time The Dukes of Hazzard as a pinch-hit replacement for a midseason flop. Six years and 147 episodes later, the series concluded its run as one of the most successful television shows of its era, ranking consistently in the Nielsen top 10 and reaping millions of dollars for Warner Brothers in licensing fees.

More than a decade after they made their last episode, the extended Duke family remains an icon of pop culture. Their infamous 1969 Dodge Charger, the General Lee, is as familiar to the average American 20-year old as a Coke can or the Nike Swoosh symbol. One member of the cast, Ben Jones, even managed to cash in on his role as Cooter with a four-year stint in the United States Congress. The Duke phenomenon may have come as a surprise to its producers and CBS, but given the social situation in the United States at the time, it should only have been expected.

The show had been originaly slated for eight episodes, but when the show skyrocketed to the top of the Nielsen ratings, its critics at CBS and Warner Brothers had no other choice but to leave The Dukes on.

The Dukes may not have been the only Southern rural sitcom to appear on television, but it met with the most all around success and resurrected the Southern outlaw-hero from the dust that it lay in after the 1960s.
I'm going to guess that the series was based on the movie, "Moonrunners" (as in moonshine runners).
How 'bout another Burt Reynolds movie, "Gator", I think it was called.
LJBlazer, this is a side of you I didn't know existed.

Do you already have your tickets for the movie remake that comes out this summer? :D

Movie trivia: For the remake, 30 General Lee cars were made for the movie. 24 of them were totaled.
I think Moonrunners is correct

Not BASED on this movie, but it sure looks like a good remake!!!
Memphis Blazer,

I'm sorry. I can't help it. I was young when that was on - and I loved it.

However, I will confess that I occasionally watch re-runs on CMT when I am flipping through the channels and find it on.

I don't know about the movie. I'm not a big Jessica Simpson fan at all.
The Dukes of Hazzard movie hits theaters this summer. I read a story in Time the other day about the summer "blockbusters," and low and behold if this wasn't one of the movies the studios are counting on to make their summer dough.

In response to Attalla:
Quote:I wonder how many Dodge Chargers they destroyed making those jumps?

The article said they made 30 General Lee's for the movie, and destroyed 23 of them.

ClassicTV.com says: While making "The Dukes of Hazzard" TV series, hundreds of cars were used, 309 to be exact. Many people try to sell a car they claim was one of the actual cars used in the series but be careful, just like autographed items, you need to make sure it is a genuine General Lee from the series. When all was said and done, most of the 309 cars were wrecked with only about 20 left in good condition.

It also says the car didn't really "jump" in every episode, a lot of those jumps were reuses of old jumps.

Anyway, it was a fun series. My dad loved it, which means I had to watch it if I wanted to watch TV when it was on....

American Idol or Dukes of Hazzard.

Which do you think will stand the test of time?

There's no question?

American Idol is like Who wants to be a millionaire? That show had a big explosion on the scene and then fizzled away. It was on like 4 or 5 times a week, and people got tired of it.

I can proudly say that I have never watched one second of American Idol. And I get tired of reading about it on the front page of the newspaper every week.
I agree. Twenty years after it went off the air we're talking about it.

I just don't think that will be the case with AI.

I won't call you a racist, but I will call you a moron. Your hypothesis is flawed. Ruben was black and from Birmingham. Numerous people went there both black and white. He also sang Gospel, R&B in addition to Pop. Ruben had a much larger crowd show up because he lives in a much larger city.

Bo lives in a small town of Helena, which is mostly white. Also, there is no easy way to get to Helena. He had about 5,000 people show up. He also sings Southern Rock music.

For you to make a statement that "pop cultures move down racial lines" because of your "keen" observations that Ruben is black and Bo is white and the color of fans who showed up for their homecoming tour - shows how much of a "nub" you really are.

Wow, when Ruben played the one time event during the UAB game at Legion Field, there were more "white" people there than "black" people. Isn't it ironic that Ruben has more "white" fans than "black" fans.

MORON, MORON, MORON, MORON!!!!

My point was that there is enough serious issues in the world that the weekly results of a TV talent show should not make front page news like it does. In the paper, maybe, but not front page.

Chill. pal.

I'm with Memphis. I've pretty much stopped watching our local Fox affiliate because I can't stand the American Idol updates every twenty minutes with the weather and sports.

I do not, however, begrudge those who like the show. It's a matter of taste. Knock yourself out.

Draak, I've no doubt I like some show you avoid like the plague.
Plenty of people I know determine whether or not to watch programs solely on the previews.

I can honestly say I've never watched an episode either - although I've seen it occasionally while flipping through channels. Reality TV in general doesn't interest me.
As far as the American Idol show goes, I'm not usually one that really gets into the show. The only thing related to a reality show I've gotten into was the "Joe Schmo Show." My typical viewing of reality shows is that I watch the first 2 or 3 episodes and based on those I might watch the last 2 or 3 shows. I've gotten into it more this year than ever. I don't know if it's because there's somebody from Alabama that has a reasonable shot at winning it, or if it's because I've had a couple of weeks off and I'm getting really bored...probably the latter. Tonight was the first whole show I've watch of American Idol...once it got past the auditions. To tell you the truth, the main reason I watch those is reassure myself that I, in fact, am not the worst singer in the world. 03-lol I can't believe that I actually voted a couple of times tonight though. 03-banghead I can't believe an American Idol thread became a thread of namecalling. I honestly didn't see that one coming. This will probably be moved to the Smack Forum in the next day or 2.

so much.

i dont give a rats *** if you like the show or not that was never the point and i said as much in my response "IF YOU DONT LIKE IT THATS FINE DONT WATCH" can I be much more clear than that? ITS CALLED READING COMPREHENSION PEOPLE. what i said was it chapped my *** when people critisize stuff they have never seen. and when you said 'I can proudly say i have never watched even one second of the show' that comes off as snottish which is why i said blah blah blah bite me. you just reminded me of all the idiots our there protesting movies they have never seen. the right wing christians protesting the harry potter movies without ever seeing them. the left wing idiots protesting the last temptation of christ without ever seeing the movie. and yes i realize that what you said was no where near as bad at those idiots but its the same principal.

i understand being sick of all the hype surrounding something and not watching it. I still refuse to watch basic instinct and the only reason I broke down after almost 20 years of refusin to watch ET was having a kid. but there is a difference in saying i am so sick of all the crap i wont watch the show and ' i can proudly say i have never watched one second of that show'.
That's funny.
