Here's to a short summer!
(applied only to college graduates, who don't know what summer's for anymore, exept a time to be really hot.)
Current college students, ignore that.

Band has about 150-160 for the coming year most likely... still not as large as one would like, but better than the 118 of last year.

My kid was down there sweating on the drumline. He'll be happy to know he is part of the sound of an oncoming football season. :D
Well, I'm happy he is anyhow... he'd probably rather have been inside and airconditioned rather than outside and sunburned and offeringup happy sounds.

For example, virtually every brass section grew a little bit and that helps alot as far as volume. No offense to woodwinds, but besides saxophones you wont get much volume from clarinets or flutes and thank goodness that's not where most of our growth has been. Also, there are supposed to be almost 30 colorguard in the coming year (as opposed to about 8 or 9 when Ms Samuels first came).Blazer85 Wrote:Band has about 150-160 for the coming year most likely... still not as large as one would like, but better than the 118 of last year.Mrs. Samuels said she is "extremely surprised" at the level of talent we have coming in. The above statement is what I said at dfarr's original comment, which was very funny--but unfortunately has been removed by the sensitivity police. But, so that people don't think I'm such a goober that I would actually laugh at someone saying "shut up," I wanted to clarify that it was the original "joke" that has since been edited that I found funny.

Any early hints to what songs we may be hearing at half time?

I look at it like this: If you are a man, and agree to be a majorette; then you are either flamingly gay, or the manliest man on campus.
That said, I think the correct term to use is Manjorette.

The biggest band UAB has ever had was back in 1998. We marched around 180. We had a huge sound but we weren't very clean. And what I mean by that is that things just were not together like the current band plays. We were loud, but the current UAB Band is a better playing band. Alot of that has to do with the director of the band. I wish the Marching Blazers nothing but the very best; this comes from a Charter Member.
