Birmingham Queers and Allies (Q&A) has organized a volunteer opportunity for this Sunday, from 1-5.
Where: Alethia House 201 W. Finley Ave
In order to kick off our week of GLBT Pride events, we thought it would be great to give back to the community. We will be volunteering with Alethia House on Finley Ave, as well as, helping to fix up a home for a mother who has recently completed their program. Our tasks will included scraping windows, and digging holes for a fence. The only things you need to bring are smiling faces, great attitudes and gloves.
In celebration of Pride feel free to wear any appropriate hats, t-shirts, etc... We're hoping to recruit at least 10 volunteers for this project. If you would like more information, please feel free to contact Sonya Pearson either by email at spearson@uab.edu or at home 591-2416.
We hope to see you folks there!

With a subversive message of getting the Birmingham community to accept homosexuality as mainstream.
I thought you were accpeting of gays? (see manjorette thread)
I am okay with people being gay on their own time, but I dislike "gay pride" events such as this, where homosexuality is flaunted out in the open as an acceptable type of behavior--it's not.
We have gay people in Birmingham?
:D

Sax, did you not just say this:
Quote:I prefer to approach subjects such as these with an open mind and try to understand all points of view.
You're not showing much understanding of why they're having this event.

I do understand; and I have my opinion.
Having an open mind doesn't mean I have to agree with it.
I can approach Hitler's mass extermination of the Jews with an open mind, but I sure as hell will NEVER agree with it.

Well, I think being a UAB fan is unacceptable behavior. Maybe you should stop having pep rallies, tailgate parties, and homecoming parades.

Not me. I condemn Hitler's extermination of the Jews out of hand and without reservation.
Hey, Sax, Smaug's point is to contradict your nonsense.
You said you can have an open mind about Hitler and his actions without agreeing with it.
Smaug's point is that he condemns it without even giving it a second thought (ie, NOT having an open mind about it).
I think the Hitler reference was a bad example.

And the people all said, "Amen."
Smaug,
If you haven't figured it out, a typical argument with Sax goes something like this:
You: Sax, the sky is blue
Sax: No it isn't. It's green and purple.
You: Green and purple! That's the silliest thing I have ever heard. You would have to be an idiot to think that.
Sax: You're right. I agree. Anyone who thinks that would be an idiot.

Ah, it's all beginning to make sense, now.
I think I can stop banging my head on my desk now.

Don't listen to MB too much. He's like poison for the ears.
