Yes, he'd been fighting the cancer for a time. Great guy

He always seemd like a great guy for our community. This is really unfortunate news for all of us.

Gosh, I remember him from Memphis State back when we were students in the 60's. I didn't know him that well but it appears he did a lot for the city and university after he graduated. I think Tommy Burke and The Counts used to play at some of the Lambda Chi fraternity parties. My prayers go out to him and his family.

Quote:Thomas Boggs, Huey's CEO, dies
Thomas Boggs, the CEO of the Huey’s restaurant chain, died this morning at his home.
Mr. Boggs, 63, was also a partner in the Half Shell Restaurants, Tsunami, Folks Folly, and the Prime Cut Shoppe.
Thomas Boggs died this morning at his home.
He joined Huey’s in 1975 and in two years was made a full partner. With experience at the T.G.I. Friday’s corporate operations, it was because of Mr. Boggs’ influence that Huey’s moved from a bar to a restaurant. There are now seven Huey’s locations.
Mr. Boggs was a former president of the Memphis Restaurant Association and last year received the association’s Civic and Community Leadership Award.
He leaves: his wife, Wight Fulton Boggs; daughters Lauren Boggs McHugh, Ashley Boggs Williams and Samantha Boggs Dean; sons Alexander Boggs and Fulton Boggs, all of Memphis; sister Mary Ellen Smith, Blytheville, Ark.; brothers Richard Boggs, Memphis and Robert Earle Boggs, Tucson, Ariz.
Arrangements are pending.

Thomas has been a friend for over 40 years. I first met Thomas when he was the drummer for The Counts.....the best [ in my humble opinion ] local band in Memphis in the early to mid sixties.
Thomas was a wonderful human being with a big warm smile and a generous heart.
His business successes after he left the world of music are well documented. Thomas got it. He understood that when you achieve success, it's important to give back. And Thomas did that time and time again.
When I think of Thomas, I always see that big smile. He truly was............."one of the good ones".
He'll be missed by many.................Rest in Peace my friend.

I am very happy that this was posted. Thomas was a great man. My father is also part owner of the Half Shell. And Thomas made that happen. He will be missed very much.
His battle with cancer was long and hard. He is in a much better place now.
I will let his family know that everyone here is praying for them.
Thank you!

I ditto your thoughts on all counts(pardon the pun). He was a treasure as a citizen in this city. I mourn his loss both from that perspective and as a personal friend. I pray for his family and their loss...he was a gentleman.

Jeb,
You can catch that documentary pretty much every Sunday morning on the local access channel.
Interesting what kids did with their time and talents those days.
Thomas bought a convertible at age 18 with his money. Shades of his future.
Very sorry to hear of the battle he faced.
God bless.

A trip home is never complete without a trip to Hueys for a burger and shooting toothpicks into the ceiling.
Used to go to the original one on Madison almost every Saturday night to watch the original Saturday Night Live and drink cold pitchers of beer.

I remember going to the New Orleans Bowl in 2003, he stayed down the hall from the room I was in. My Uncle and I saw him frequently those 2 or so days. Everytime he walked by, my uncle would say to me but loud enough so that Boggs could hear,"Man, I could really go for a Huey burger right now!"

He used to play over at Horseshoe Lake. He looked like he was having the time of his life- always smiling. His house is about 4 houses down from where my wife's parents used to live. He came by often to some of their parties and was always the same - fun to be around. He had an infectuous spirit. God bless.
