What are some good '08 releases?

Looking forward to Tilly and the Wall disc. Also heard for the first time on Woxy, Santogold, If you like MIA, you'll dig her. I also want to pick up the Goldfrapp dsc. What else for this year? '08 seems to suck. But new Hold Steady and Ladytron await. 04-rock

I really did hte new POD...... but I haven't bought too many 2008 cds though.
I was pretty geared up for the new Death Cab disc. Then I heard "I will possess your heart" and got a little nervous. It isn't too bad though. Definitely different than the other discs.
I just saw Beck is due out with a new record

The Old 97s have a new record coming out next week. There's a free stream of it at Rhapsody. It's pretty good.
Not sure how I forgot about this one, but AC/DC has a new one due out soon!

I've been hearing a lot about the Old 97's. Would love to hear 'em. Wonder if they're on Luisterpaal? Haven't been there in a short while. They're kinda like the Avett Bros., no? Bluegrassy with a rock-n-roll side? Bought that Goldrapp disc, gold stuff. Track seven, A&E is so good. And the opener just sucks you in. New Mates of State coming out soon. And I heard a track off the My Morning Jacket album on Stereogum. "Evil Urges." It's awesome. They're a band I like in spurts, but would love to see em live. NIU has built the excitement for me. Also a new Dandy Warhols ablum.

edit: will check out on rhapsody.

I did not like the new MMJ disc at a all. I haven't listened to the new Mates of State yet.

You can be the judge though...

New Mates Of State

MMJ - Evil Urges

Maybe I don't know the Avett Bros well enough, but from what I've heard, they seem more folksy/accoustic than the Old 97s, who go with the straight Telecaster sound for the most part.

There's no telling when they'll actually get a new record out, but Urge Overkill has been playing a new song lately. It's called "Hollywood." If you go to the actual youtube page, there's an option to watch in high quality.

I just saw this on Pitchfork: The Hood Internet vs Chicago
http://www.thehoodinternet.com/

You can stream the entire record or download it. Pretty interesting.

If you stream it, go to just after the 12 minute mark and listen to "Superbowl Jesus" (Kanye West + 1985 Bears vs Wilco) Who knew those three would fit together so well. Wilco violins behind Samurai Mike? Wow.

Ahh man this new Shearwater album that dropped today is prime stuff. I didn't plan on catching them on this tour, but after hearing the new album I went out and bought a ticket. A taste:

That disc is good.....

I also caught a leak of the new Deerhunter (shh!). So far, outstanding. I'm hearing all sorts of Soft Bulletin era Flaming Lips...
I was wondering when Sun Kil Moon would come up. I caught a review somewhere and wondered what you thought of it.

Did I mention there will be new AC/DC this year? Brenden O'Brien is producing. Should be interesting.

Don't know if you heard or read but Wal Mart struck a deal with the band to become the exclusive retailer for that new cd!

echoes my sentiments exactly.

Didn't the Eagles release their new record that way and make a ton of money? At least they have that going for them.

I just hate going into that store. Will there be an electronic release?

No, it was a shout out to O'Brien. I think he does a great job, even with bands I wouldn't normally listen to.

No hate @ AC/DC.

A growing list to check out

Ladytron
Hold Steady
Beck
Fleet Foxes
Frightened Rabbit
Bon Iver
Wolf Parade
Kings of Leon
National EP

probably a whole lot more, though this year doesn't look as promising as last year
Is anybody here a Hold Steady fan? I know NIU has made his stance clear. Curious about your opinions on the band as a whole. Mine:

I really dig their music. I like Craig's voice and his lyrics. I like the music. But their starting to sound redundant. Yeah, getting f*cked up as a child was great, is Craig secretly holding on to his youth?
I'm very interested in The Hold Steady. I first heard them last summer and loved it. That guy has a cool voice. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten around to checking out more by them.
Yea, I'm thinking I'll probably skip the Hold Steady's set at P4k next week and catch Extra Golden and Atlas Sound on the side stage instead.
Wait, Pitchfork is next week already. That came up fast. I guess I wont be hitting that. You still considering Urge Overkill this Saturday?
Frightened Rabbit- Midnight Organ Fight is a must pick up. Very good.
Anybody hear the new Beck? Thought I said this last night, but guess I didn't.
New TVOTR song on their website. Golden Age":

Im officially really really really excited for this album....
Just found out about this record tonight thanks to cnn.com
Glen Campbell - Meet Glen Campbell

He covers 10 contemporary songs and from the samples, it sounds like it could be a pretty good record.
