Today is National Record Shop day. Indie shops across the nation are hosting live acts and discount prices for the occasion. I just bought 4 albums at my favorite record shop for $30! 15% off. There's gonna be some music later on. Regina Spektor is playing at some shop in Manhatten, the Duke Spirit and BRMC are playing in Lexington, and a bunch more. Support the little guy and celebrate the music!
I spent Record Store Day here:

They did a Flaming Lips "Zaireeka" party around 7 (if you're not familiar with the album, it consists of 4 CDs that all have to be played at the same time from 4 different stereos, which contain different elements of the music. first time ive ever gotten to hear the album played that way, so it was really cool. they had DVD visuals that were cued up to go along with the music)

Also bought a ton of vinyl:

Ennio Morricone: Music from Films Vol. 1
Smog- Knock Knock
LCD Soundsystem- Sound of Silver/ 45:33
Hot Chip- Made in the Dark
Lou Reed- Transformer
Stars of the Lid- Avec Laudenum
Can- Future Days
I wish I could afford another expensive hobby. Otherwise, I'd be knee deep in vinyl. I spent Record Shop Day at my favorite joint

I bought:

The Hold Steady- Separation Sunday (used)
Los Campesinos- Hold on Now, Youngster
Athlete- Tourist (used)
Bishop Allen- the Broken String

Around $30. Score.

Glad you brought this up. Anyone catch the record store features in Paste this month? There was a nice opening editorial by Josh Jackson about balancing the new with the old, and a list of the top record stores in the US. You can find a couple record store articles here: http://www.pastemagazine.com/action/arti...pe=Feature
I can't find the editorial there, but if you click the "Paste Digital Edition" button in the left column and go to page 6, you'll find it.
