Is this another Guthrie's knock-off?

I think there was another franchise that had locations in Dothan and Troy and I believe both of those locations shut down shortly after they opened.

Nah... this is very different. Greek style chicken sandwiches, Greek salads, Greek potatoe salad (yum), etc etc. Fairly unique for a place that's been franchised-out. Also, Zoes hasnt ever had locations in Troy or Dothan if that's what youre saying.
Zoe's does have a location in Dothan but the franchise I'm referring to is different.

I just remember that the location in Troy for this particular chain closed faster than it opened.

I just remembered it...Willy T's!

I've looked at Zoe's corporate website and there's no mention of a location in Dothan. I guess it's possible, but the only one it indicates in south Alabama is in Spanish Fort.
Nevermind...thinking of another chicken fast-food restaurant.

Too many of those damn things.

Dallas, TX: Lover's Lane

Depending on where it's at on Lover's Lane it can be on some PRICEY real estate. VERY busy street though that runs through the wealthiest area of Dallas. That area makes Mountain Brook look like Pelham.

maybe he doesn't believe you because of your youth and inexperience. :D

Take a breath, and laugh, Blazer85. It's a joke. 04-cheers
Okay, I found the name of the other chicken restaurant: Zaxby's

Zaxby's website
Another local restaurant going national. Shame.
more like another company founded in Bham going national, shame.

I believe that Bham doesn't have the best track record with companies that were founded there and later went national:

-Just for Feet
-HealthSouth
-Bruno's (although it didn't go national but it did file BK)

Hibbett Sports has done well but I think that's more of a regional store.

Am I missing any others?

There's a Willy T's in Trussville. Definitely Guthrie's knockoff. Not good.

I've never eaten at Zoe's, but it sounds good.
I give Zoe's in Spanish Fort another 1-3 months...that place is always dead.

/never eaten there

god forbid people trying to make more money. that damn capitalism!!

I would call Hibbet Sports national, since they recently opened a location here in Kirksville. If you come to Kirksville, you are either lost or you've run out of places to expand to.

People in Southern Alabama just don't like to eat healthy :)
I am waiting for Milos to go (inter)national.
^ I've taken a few northern friends to Milos when they come down. They loved the burgers, but especially the tea. They made me take them to the grocery store after that to buy a gallon of Milo's Sweet Tea. 03-lol

Milo's is, without question, the best restaurant is existence. You're crazy! :loco:

Let's examine this now. Sax, you go postal in one thread when someone suggests that you dont' know as much about football as you think, and call it a "sax witch hunt"

and now you are calling Lightemup crazy for not liking Milo's.

Don't you think that is a double standard.
IF you don't like people insulting you, don't insult others.

That was not an insult. It was clearly a joke. CLEARLY. (Unless your moniker is MemphisBlazer, though).

Memphis... I am going to have to agree with Sax on this one. I am worried about Lightemup... we may need to get him to a hospital ASAP! He is only the second person I know of who doesn't like Milo's. The other is my father-in-law.
I don't know what it is, but the Milo's restaurants outside the B'ham metro area don't stay open for long. Auburn had one but it closed within 2 years, and we here in Montgomery finally got our Milo's, but it closed within a year. I love 'em. Seems people either love'em or hate'em, which probably isn't good in the restaurant business.
I know Milo's opened in West Mobile recently...but I haven't heard any buzz about it. My friends in Birminhgam hate it...so I don't consider it worth the stress of driving down Airport Blvd.

Sarah, have you ever eaten there?

If not, give it a shot. LightEmUp is the first person I've ever met who hasn't liked Milo's.
The Milo's on 18th Street kept me fed during my undergrad years.

You could not get near it at lunch.

The next time you're in one check out the county health rating. I've never seen one below 98.

I hear there's one open on southside again. I'll never forgive UAB for "eminent domaining" the old one into a parking lot.
The Wendy's on the corner of 19th Street and 5th Avenue South "converted" to Milo's a month or two ago.

The Milo's in Vestavia has its very own police officer from 11AM to 1PM to direct traffic into the parking lot. It's VERY, VERY busy at lunchtime.

The old one on southside had one of Birmingham's finest in the parking lot asking people if they were dining in or carrying out. If you were carrying out, he'd let you double park.

Getting back to the original topic of this thread and off the Milos' (UGH!!!) lovefest......

I assume that you meant Zoe's Kitchen (not chicken).....

Did you know that it is yet another restaurant owned by a former Bammer football player? John Casimus of Mountain Brook....Zoe was his grandmother......
^ Yeah... and unfortunately he's also some big member of Bama Pride or something.
Zoe's is pretty good. Milo's good. Don't waste your time at O' Carrs or whatever by the Rave on 280. Zaxby's and Guthrie's both suck (slight edge to Zax).
There's a chicken restaurant starting to expand out of Oxford, Mississippi called Abner's that is very good. They are in Memphis now and I believe they are going regional.

The last restaurant that came from Oxford that expanded and is doing well, and very good is McAllister's Deli.

McAllister's are all over the place now. I really liked it when we were stateside.
