Andre Allen, backup point guard and star smack talker at the UAB- Memphis game just got suspended for the Final Four for breaking team rules. 03-lmfao 03-lmfao 05-nono He is not on the plane to San Antonio. That is a hell of a punishment for a player.

You would think a senior would know the rules by now. 05-nono Empty.org is speculating that it was a drug test problem. It would make sense that Memphis would prescreen before the NCAA did so at the Final Four.

This is Andre Allen's second suspension in his career as a Tiger. The first happened last year I believe when he solicited an undercover cop for prostitution.

HGH?

Why would a player take such a risk this late in the season with a NC on the line?

What does that have to do with the fact that you guys have one incredibly stupid player who just screwed up his chance at a great memory. Andre Allen is a punk who just got his comeuppance. If you don't like what I'm saying, go back to empty.org.

And why in the hell would you think I would be rooting for the Tigers. Haven't you read anything I have written in past several years.

Go Bruins.

LOL, Andre Allen is an NCAA student-athlete who will still have a chance to graduate from the University of Memphis...that fact he made a stupid choice on the eve of our first Final Four in 23 years is very sad...but it's his own fault for taking those actions...we still have Derrick Rose and Willie Kemp...expect Doneal Mack to get a little extra PT.

and MB, as much as you may hate to admit it...about 90% of UAB fans should want Memphis to keep winning...it brings money, respect, TV contact bargaining chip, etc to not only C-USA, but UAB...just like i wanted Rice to win the baseball title last season.

MB, you hate the people, and city in which you live...that really sucks for you...but it really doesn't bother me that much.

Go Tigers!!!
Drew

Memphis isn't the first team from CUSA to make the Final Four. Marquette did it. Louisville did it. Their success didn't really affect the conference that much other than monetary credits. It sure didn't help with respect for the conference. They used it as a springboard to get out. I suspect that Memphis hopes to do the same and given the chance would tell the conference to screw off.

i would say before the BE merger, C-USA was THE non-Big 6 conference to play in...Louisville, Cincy, Memphis, Marquette, Houston, DePaul, UAB...that conference kicked a$$.

now, C-USA is a totally new, 3 year old conference...over half the conference changed, and THIS Final Four would be it's biggest moment thus far...if Memphis wins this title, it helps ALL of C-USA.

my problem with you MB, is that you simply seem giddy over a mistake that could change this 23 year old fathers life for the worse...i just hope he is able to find the money to finish school, and get that degree...street ministries will HAVE to pull his scholly.

Go Tigers!!!
Drew

and my problem with you is that you consider this to be a mistake. It wasn't a mistake. He knew the rules and deliberately decided to break them, foolishly thinking he wouldn't get caught. If his scholarship gets pulled, it's no ones fault but his own.

guess what MB...people screw up every day...many of those folks are GOOD people...if Andre smoked a little, and failed a drug test...it hurts his team, but i feel sorry for him as a person...Andre is a nice guy, and is on the verge of becoming a college grad...THAT is something that could be meaningful the rest of his life...at this point, all we know is Andre is suspended for violating team policy...i want to see how all this plays out.

Go Tigers!!!

Is there a team in Amsterdam? 05-ban

Wait.

Can't I pull for Memphis and think Allen's an idiot?
Hey I hope Memphis wins it all. AA is a flippin Moron!

That is very disappointing, cuz I am pulling for Memphis. Though I always thought Allen was a bit of a punk and a thug, I do acknowledge his importance to the Tiger team. He gets inside the opposing guard's head. I wish this hadn't happened. He could have smoked weeks ago and still tested positive. We don't really know if he did this "on the eve of the Final Four". I for one don't get all outraged over a bit of marijuana smoking by a college kid. I'd be a hypocrite if I did. It may betray a lack of maturity and judgement, especially on the part of an athlete, but isn't that typical of college kids?

I hate to see a senior miss this dream and go out this way. I hope it won't hurt the Tiger's chance of victory too much, but I'm sure it will to some extent.
I thought coaches were supposed to be builders of men. Its not like Allen just got there yesterday. This situation speaks volumes on the success of their discipline program. What a shame.
I want Memphis to win, I just don't like their players as individuals. I wish no evil upon them and, perhaps with exception of Pierre, I wouldn't wish a suspension on anyone this late.

But, apparently Cal thinks he earned it, and for that I applaud Cal.
Is he permanently dismissed for the Final Four? Or will he fly in late, and dress out "just in case".

I took Drew's short, knee jerk, uneducated response as everyone in CUSA should be cheering their heads off for Memphis and ignore all of the suspensions, slaps, arrests, etc. because they will bring an NC to CUSA.
This is the kind of comment that makes me not care about what Drew says anymore regardless of how insightful he is. Why? Because he believes that if Memphis is going to win a NC and the other members of CUSA should cheer for Memphis regardless of how the players are and the character they portray. I guess a person's own morals should take a backseat when cheering for another team that might be crowned National Champions.

Let's see, the last time Memphis made the Final Four, it got busted by the NCAA for cheating. The last time your head coach made the Final Four, he got busted by the NCAA for cheating.

Put those two together, along with a player suspension for violating rules on the eve of the big dance, and what do you get?

If I were a Memphis fan, I would be really worried right now.

Odds are this was a mandatory NCAA suspension (substance abuse).

Just think of the fun Memphis fans can have on defendathug.com instead of coming here: Make it rain with Joey, beat down a girl with Dozier, or smoke a fatty with AA. Why are ya'll here?

I'm doing the math and,
it doesn't add up to anything positive for the tiggers.

I hate Allen too, and this was a stupid mistake. But don't kid yourselves. This could easily happen to 75% of UAB's players. Or 75% of all college basketball players, for that matter. But yeah, Allen should have been more carefull.

Drew, I have , in the past, defended your "contributions" to this board. But pleeease! Don't come over here, tell one (or all) of us to STFU and root for the Tigers.....this is not a Memphis board. It is not our responsibility to STFU when Memphis fans tell us to, nor, are we required to root for the Tigers.

GreenMississippi Wrote:

Don't be so sure it was Cal's decision. I'll bet Cal was not the first person @ Memphis to be notified, and that the decision to suspend him was made before Cal had a say in the matter.

Calipari had said there was a chance he might make the championship game should they make it, however the Athletic director said that there was no way he would make it to Monday's game.

It is my impression that this is an NCAA suspension and was out of the coach's hands. Someone on emtpy.org said that it is an automatic 365 day suspension (which even I think is kind of harsh). If true, Allen is through at Memphis. He was a senior, but apparently, he had the option of coming back for one more year due to some wrinkle in the eligibility requirements.

According to the press, Allen was suspended by the NCAA. Cal had no say so. The Memphis beat writer on the radio this morning hinted it was not the first time he and other Tigers had failed drug tests and that sometimes they received third and fourth chances after failing the tests. This is from their beat writer not me.

(This will be posted on the Memphis board in 10, 9, 8, 7, 6........)
giving Cal props for voluntarily dismissing [permanently] one of his players would go against history.
you can't change a tigger's stripes.

I am going to make this exact same comment to Memphis fans on their board next year. And then post about 3 more times defending myself. I wonder how long it would take for me to get banned from their board for that kind of posting.

He would have been able to come back for the same reason Dunbar is, and T-Rod will be able to when he's been here 4 years. It's the whole non-qualifier earning back a year of eligibility by staying on track to graduate.

All I have to say is that Andre Allen is a damn idiot. He let his teammates down and is taking away a chance that 99.99% of the people in this country will never get and that's to play for a national title.
I for one, am glad the NCAA came in and got one of their thug players off the court.05-stirthepot ( I just felt like poking you in the eye.)05-stirthepot
Lawd knows, if it was up to Calipari, this would of been swept under the rug.05-stirthepot

The funny thing is that when I saw it come across the ESPN ticker this morning I thought, "Damn, Calipari is putting his foot down during the Final Four??!! He had trouble suspending players for buy-games during the regular season!"
Let me make sure I have all this right. He's suspended because of a violation of team rules. Apparently this suspension is by mandate of the NCAA. So, was the team rule he violated "don't do drugs" or "don't get caught"?
Well apparently getting caught doesn't get you kicked off the team unless the NCAA catches you according to Gary Parish on B-ham radio this morning. Or that is at least is what he insinuated. He indicated that it takes failing three or four drug tests to get you run from Memphis. The NCAA does random drug testing immediately after the games and if you fail it is an automatic year suspension. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.00.
