The South Division finishes the season with 2 out of the top 3 seeds in the Atlantic Sun. Our wager was that the South Division would finish with 2 out of the top 5.

Therefore you are the loser in this arrangement. Our agreement would be that the loser would use the avatar of the other's choice for one month. I will be creating the avatar, and have it ready for the first month of basketball season next year. Can't wait to create a masterpiece. You have been a great sport, and I was getting really worried there by the end of the season, but my beloved South Division won it for me.

I will make sure to get in touch with you regarding this around October of next year. Until then .... Ciao!
No prob, KB.

You might want me to go ahead and use it. Who knows if either of us will be around in a year? But it's up to you.

I didn't even know the season was over. Too busy following the Vols. Did you catch their game with Kentucky yesterday? Man, KY couldn't miss a shot. We were fortunate to get out with a win. Fortunately, UT is #1 in RPI right now and I heard the guys on ESPN radio saying they should be the #1 seeded team in the NCAA, if they take care of business.

Congrats on the victory. I'm sure it's a high-point for the town of Kennesaw.
Any win is a good win :) I will save it for next basketball season. If you disappear then it will be my loss I guess. I don't really pay attention much to any sports other than Basketball, so I will probably disappear here in a bit for a few months as well...anyway. UT is very very good. They have a great chance at making a run in the tournament.
Well, I suspect I'll be around. Looking forward to paying off my bet.

On another topic, though somewhat related, it really is hard to believe that the ASun is as weak as it is this year. Look how the new Division II-almost members did.

It's pretty sad.
FGCU is a good program. They will have some struggles coming up like any DI Newbie does, but they will get the ship righted by the time they are eligible for the tournament. USC-Upstate has a good coach, and they run a tough program. I foresee a Stetson like program for them. Play you slow and tough and will win a lot of close games. North Florida will probably be firing their coach, so I don't know what to expect out of them. Kennesaw is priming itself for its first year of eligibility. We bring in our current signed recruiting class, and we take a huge step forward towards competing for the title in the ASun.
Wow, Kev ... just try to pull the league down because you lost a bet. Maybe the A-Sun is down, but it's obviously better than the OVC, right? At least that's what a board of 25 people -- not just Stanton or Mullins -- found in an unanimous vote.

By the way, once again you start talking about the Vols in the midst of the discussion about the A-Sun. Once you've turned to the darkside, you really shouldn't feel obligated to come on here are start bashing the Bucs or their league.

It's always easiest to pull for the big boy or a winner. You might as well be a Yankees fan. Do you like the Patriots too?
He probably did like the Patriots, he's a Giants fan now.
I love it, '88 ... you're probably right.

You know, I found a roster page in some old files last night from the 1982-83 season. It was signed by Barry Dowd, Andre Motley, Winfreid King and Mark Lester. I was only in elementary school at the time, but I remember getting it during a promotion in the Mall. Those guys would take Kev behind the wood shed if they knew of how he was speaking today.

Pitiful [/align]
lol. You guys are so funny.

Hey, if ETSU hadn't decided to drop sports, I'd still be a loyal fan.

However, they might as well have dropped to Division III for all the interest anybody has in them now.

Carson Newman gets more attention than ETSU nationally.
That's a ridiculous statement.

Yeah, C-N has beaten Georgia in men's basketball this year, their women's hoops team is heading at least to the WNIT (and likely the NCAAs), and both the men's and women's teams are playing for an NCAA berth this week. And the A-Sun men's title game will air at 7 p.m. nationally on ESPN2. Nothing going on in the A-Sun or at ETSU at all, right?

You're a smart guy, Kev. I expect better comments from you, even if they are misguided. By the way, enjoy the Big Orange. Hope you don't choke on it.
Barry Dowd is the biggest ETSU legend of all time, pure and simple.
C-N is better known in NFL circles than we are.

Wait, they have a football team. What a concept.
02,

You're right. I am a smart guy. A very smart guy, actually. Smart enough to know that football is a sport, too.

I looked in the News Sentinel this morning and saw two stories about Carson Newman football.

Women's NIT???????? Somebody, somewhere is going to hear about that?????

I didn't even know there was such a thing. Who plays in it? How big are the crowds? Does it even get mentioned in the papers?
What ever happened to Barry Dowd?
Hey Gold,

I just did a google search on Barry Dowd & found this from The New York Times:

Barry Dowd was dismissed as the East Tennessee State basketball coach and athletic director, stirring speculation that Sonny Smith , a popular former East Tennessee coach who resigned his post at Auburn, would be returning to East Tennessee.
From his own mouth. From Barry's High School Reunion homepage:

COACH BARRY DOWD
It would take a long time to tell what I have been doing in the last 40 years. Kind of makes me want to answer, “Awe, Nothin”. However, here’s a few things. From TJ it was UTA as Head Basketball Coach for 10 years. I went to school at UT Austin and got a chance to go back there as a coach in 1976. I was at UT Austin for six years as Asst. Coach. Went from there to East Tennessee State Univ. as Head Basketball Coach/Athletic Director. That got me into the Administrative side of Athletics. Came to Dallas in 1985 and worked in the corporate world at Life Insurance Company of the Southwest, Regional Marketing Director and worked with Coach Mike Pinkham there, and The New England, as Director of Recruitment and Development. Then to Oklahoma State University as Senior Associate Athletic Director for 4 years. Then, to Jonesboro, Arkansas, where I now live as Director of Athletics for Arkansas State University. Five years ago I was recruited to the John H. Harland company (a large check printing company headquartered in Atlanta) covering the state of Arkansas. I am still with Harland and call on all of the banks in the state of Arkansas. Guess you can see why I didn’t say “Awe, Nothin”.
You may be smart, but you are ETSU's Benedict Arnold. Hope your happy.
I think you meant, "Hope you're happy," but who really cares anyway?

Nope. ETSU deserted me. I didn't leave them. Nothing there to root for anymore. I had to find someone to follow. Just made sense to pull for my hometown team.

I did, however, make a donation to Western Kentucky. Went up there to teach a class this year and was impressed with what they're trying to do with athletics (as well as other areas). Now, I'm in their President's Club. Who'd have figured?

The numbers in the stands at ETSU say that about 6,000 or so folks have joined me since the 90s.

It's not just basketball that has fizzled at ETSU, by the way. Look at football. Wait, you can't. It's gone. How about baseball? I remember, as a kid, going to some big baseball games with a couple thousand fans at them. Does that happen anymore? I don't know. But I doubt it.

Yep, they deserted me. They deserted a lot of people.
ETSU hasn't deserted us....ETSU is being held hostage and is waiting for that glorious day when she is turned loose to reward her faithful subjects and unleash hell upon the guilty!
Hmmm. Yes. Well, let me know when that day comes.

O flesh, flesh, how art thou fishified.
This administration can't last forever
I believe that was what the Cubans were saying a few years back.

Thou villainous dizzy-eyed knave!
Even the Great Stalin ceased to be
From the Taipei Times:

Russia has a new president who is the product of an old system
By Andrew Wilson

Wednesday, Mar 05, 2008, Page 9

In 2001, US President George W. Bush claimed that he had looked into Russian President Vladimir Putin's eyes and found a soulmate for the West. Putin then proceeded to restore authoritarian rule in Russia.?Today, Western leaders may well be about to repeat the same mistake with Dmitry Medvedev.

Sunday's election was a coronation rather than a competition. Medvedev's only opponents were has-beens from the 1990s like Vladimir Zhirinovsky, who long ago converted himself from proto-fascist into a Kremlin loyalist, and Andrey Bogdanov, an ersatz "democrat" permitted to run by the Kremlin in order to dupe the West into thinking that a real contest was taking place.

You live in Kingsport????? Everyone knows the hometown team in Kingsport is the big awringe. 03-lmfao

I don't think you can compare these guys to Stalin....no matter how big their dreams secretly are.
I love that the thread declaring my victory over an "ETSU Fan" (although some of you would beg to differ) has turned into an ETSU thread trashing their own university....This is fun.
Well it's a sign of having been there, done that, not a sign of playing in the Peach Belt.
Eh, you outwitted a benedict arnold...boring
BTW, thanks Mercer, Lover and 81 for the kind words in the reputation message area.

Sometimes I feel like the punching bag around here. Fortunately, I have very tough skin.
Kevster - I just wanted to let you know that I created your avatar tonight. I will wait to unveil until the proper moment this season. Just wanted to let you know, that it is a beautiful sight....I think you will LOVE IT :)

You're welcome Kevster (I know this is 7 months after you posted that, but I missed it!).

So what part of the season will this avatar come out?

Not sure yet Mercer...I am thinking that I will wait to unveil it until the meat of conference play...perhaps in late January, so that he will have to deal with it for the weeks leading up to our final game vs. each other at the end of the season. It will be hard to be that patient, but I think that is where it will be most effective. We will see.
lol OK
Calling what we're going to do to Kennesaw this year a game is laughable at best.
You guys should just forfeit this season and plan for next year.
