Does anyone remember the supposed development in DeSoto County, Riverbend Crossing? Below is a link to the MGM portion of it that has been discussed. I haven't heard anything else about it in a while, was wondering if someone else has. Looks pretty cool.
MGM Theme Park
There is/has been a hold up in land acquisition of two parcels, one of which owned by Entergy. Also, perhaps the economy is affecting (hopefully temporarily) the project. Riverbend is great primarily b/c it presents itself as a new-urbanist level community a la Harbortown. The suburbs desperately need this level of development to combat the strip-mall attitudes that infect community planning to the detriment of quality of life.
The MGM theme park is somewhat misleading, as your link attests. There aren't many "thrill rides"; it appears to be more of a downtown Disney theme district than an amusement park. But when/if it is built it will still be a asset to the region's entertainment smorgasborg. Hopefully it will trigger more talk of light rail between Tunica and Memphis/airport.
