1. That was not our dance team. Our dance team is hot and they have good uniforms
2. That was our flag guard or whatever they are called. It was the most hideous uniform I have ever seen and is a disgrace to UAB. In no way shape, form, or fashion should anything remotely close to those uniforms ever be worn again. Whomever approved those should be fired.
I have been harrassed all morning from a Troy alum about those uniforms.
Embarrassing.
Then harrass them about their team and their silly cheap looking logo.
The dance team was wearing gold hologram dresses.
Their dancing was, ummm....yeah, well, a bit provocative.
Oh, and if youre going to have males on the colorguard...put them in something a little less "fabulous".

Word on the street was that the previous mascot was offensive to Arabs. Not sure if that's true though.

I was hoping someone had put that costume in the dumpster, but unfortunately not. They have recently held auditions for a male student to be our Trojan Warrior...I can only hope they do a better job choosing a strapping young man for this mascot then they did choosing the Hector costume.
I think we should fire whoever signed up those porkers and girly-men on the flag line. Damn, the folks around me in the stands were fluctuating between uncontrolled laughter to total embarassment about UAB's image busting from that fiasco. I don't have a problem with the girls on the color guard. What I have a problem with is the ridiculous uniforms that in no way should represent anything having to do with UAB.
For one, UAB only has one shade of green, not 3. Second, the design is just awful and looks cheap. Last, WE NEED TO STOP CHANGING OUR UNIFORMS EVERY TIME THE SUN RISES! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, CAN WE PICK A UNIFORM AND JUST STICK WITH IT??!!!

I agree with St. Louis on those uniforms. The athletic department paid money for that crap....somebody should be fired.
Since the band and dance squads go against UAB's athletic budget numbers, I think we should pull all scholarships for the flag people. Just keep the hottie dance team and our band.
I got a little upset trying to listen to the music and watch the Troy hotties do their dance routine in the end zone when our idiot drum major or ??? kept the band playing. The next time we go down to Troy, we should leave the band in Birmingham. I was at Tulane last year when they kept playing while we were on offense. At least in Troy, they didn't play when we were on offense.

Fat people need loving too!!!! However, I agree we don't need to dress them up in neon green tights and have them jump up and down and roll around wearing UAB logos in front of the world. It is worse than having CNN go to Tuscaloosa after a tornado and interview the local trailer park residents with their Crimson Tide cap on asking them to describe what happened.
As for the its on the squad, I say screw the flaggettes...if Hooters can only hire women, then the flag squad should only have females!!!

1) Apparently the colorguard members, band director, and colorguard director didn't think so because they all had input in the decision to purchase the uniforms they wore on Saturday.
2) The colorguard uniform is supposed to change every year. They're the "colorful" aspect of the band and by changing uniforms it keeps a fresh face on the band as a whole each new season.

Uhmm....I don't know what kind of penises you guys/gals have been looking at recently, but that looks like a Trojan to me.
I guess you guys were just too busy focusing on the males in our guard that you didnt notice the males in Troy's guard and dance team. And that's not just UAB and Troy that do this... almost every collegiate band has a male or two on guard. If you guys knew anything about band, you'd know this. Look at Jax State this weekend and I'll bet you they have at least one male in their colorguard. You'll never see the university put an end to that. Higher education is far too liberal to ever attempt to put a requirement for weight and/or gender.
As for the black in the uniforms, who knows... but it's not just the band. Look at all the black in those Hawaii bowl uniforms. Maybe the school is moving towards making black as one of our official colors or something... who knows. All I know is that the design of our new uniforms is infinitely better than the old ones and is much more in keeping with modern times.
As for the colorguard uniforms, I'm not wild about them either, but at least theyre green. Sometimes in the past colorguard uniforms will go COMPLETELY against the color scheme of the school colors.

[*]It's been at least a decade or go or more, so long ago that Warrior High School doesn't exist, but I was at a Warrior High School football game because my Dad was being honored for the 50th anniversary of his team winning the state championship. They had a male majorette, which back then was incredibly rare. I thought it was the gayest thing I had ever seen, UNTIL he performed at halftime. The guy juggled EIGHT flaming batons, and NEVER dropped anything. He twirled fire, swords and even three chain saws. He got a standing ovation. I can guarantee you all of that was for him, because the band sucked.

Well... I am a huge fan of Drum Corp Intl. Sort of like professional marching band.
Many of them are all male. Flag twirlers & dance team included. Most people don't stare and obsess about what they are wearing :/ but if I recall last year our male color guard wore a top that was made out a lot of black mesh

wow... I'm gonna try to do this without getting too mad...
first off the colors of the COLORGUARD (thats what they are called... by the way...) uniform... when I first saw it... I was like WTH as much as you people were... and I think everyone in the band was also... but after seeing a tape of the show from a near pressbox level... they look great... it looks like it goes from dark green to lime green... like its spose too...
next... why should the people that picked them be fired... they were thinking about how they would look at halftime... and as I said they looked great on the tape... and the "WTH is that" will wear off after awhile... it did for me at least... so yeah...
Go to any high school and you will find "overweight" girls on colorguard... you will also sometimes see guys... not all guys that do colorgaurd are gay... or girly... and saying they can't be on the field is like saying you can't come to the game cause your not wearing green... or more extreme making the call based on race... same thing...
on down the list... the colorgaurd uniform changes every year... thats alot of sunrises... and again... every school in the state changes uniforms every year... the blazerettes changed uniforms... slightly but still changed...
on down the list... I can almost 100% tell you... that the band budget... is no where near the athletic money... we have our own scholarship money... our own money to buy music... and we have our own money to buy new colorguard uniforms (uniforms may be bought by the line themselves I think... not sure)... as I said almost 100%... but the only person that I would trust is pres of the university or head of the music department... or MsS herself... but I am pretty sure that band is seperate from the football...
I am again almost sure that the athletic dept. had nothing to do with the purchase of the uniforms... that includes using their own money to buy them...
First off... quit caring about Troy hotties... you want to look at them go to school there... about the playing in the stands we do the same thing every game... every down we play... we always have... always will... unless we cause a game to be lost... Tulane... we did the same thing... which is what we did all year before hand... and at Troy we played every down... on offense... if you are so worried about the band... at least know when we play...
as far as I know... there is no UAB logo on the uniform... I think that was the problem further up... yeah...
black is universal... the uniforms before this where mainly white... they are designed to look like DCI uniforms...
anyways... thats all... please be understanding... alot of this is done for the halftime show... uniforms that is... for effect... not for when we are sitting in the stands...

For some reason I'm reminded of this SNL skit with Eddie Murphy, when he played "Little Richard Simmons," he was leading these big women in calesthenics while singing Little Richard songs, and one of the lines was:

Yeah, I thought that was pretty rude.
The colors and the patterns of flag line outfits were incredibly hiddeous.
And no the bigger girls should not have worn outfits that snug fitting, just ask them they will agree. More than likely they would rather conceal than wear something that screams "HERE I AM!"

I said this in the band thread, but it's buried on Page 4 of a thread no one wants to read anymore.
I showed this photo of the flag corp to my design class today, as an example of what not to publish. All but one student said the photo was hideous, for many of the reasons we've said here.
One male student, however, said he liked the photo. I asked why. He sang, "I like big butts and I cannot lie....."
The class laughed hysterically for 10 minutes.
