A caller on mid-day sports show said there's a rumor going around that Joey has been suspended by Coach Cal for 3 games for throwing the ball (not sure exactly where or at whom) at the UTEP game. It's obviously a rumor according to the caller....hopefully it's not true.

He did underhand a ball or two quickly to the officials, (one which hit an official squarely in the buttocks) but if you watch the games live, we do that routinely to get the ball back inbounds as soon as possible, so we can run the court. If the ref isn't paying attention, well its too late to stop the ball.

o man damn that ! we need proof !!
02-04-2008, 01:42 PM
I guess we'll find out soon enough if it's true. I'll let Cal be the judge of whether he needs to discipline someone, and I wouldn't worry about it.
02-04-2008, 01:47 PM
I heard Cal had been suspended for three days for suspending Joey.
02-04-2008, 01:48 PM
Doubtful. You don't get suspended for 3 games for just throwing a basketball. It could have been something else or just a rumor.
02-04-2008, 01:48 PM
Didn't you think that the guy that started the rumor on 56 just seemed too giddy?
02-04-2008, 01:48 PM
Even if true, he'd be out for SMU, UCF, and Houston.....all at home and all more than winnable without him.
02-04-2008, 01:49 PM
Wolken would have written something about this if it were true. Also, Cal said nothing about it last night on his show. I call BS.

as far as the other thread saying that the caller claims Joey threw the ball "to the ref's head" - I seriously doubt that happened as described, but still there might be a lack of control that needs to get adjusted - can't let people get in your head.

History shows that it really takes a lot for Cal to suspend one of his guys. I never saw Joey do anything like that during the game.
However I did see him shove a UTEP player in the back in the tunnel at halftime while UTEP was running back onto the court. Not a tap, but a hard two-handed shove. I think an assistant coach kind of held him back afterwards. Some of our guys were laughing about it when we came back out onto the floor.

I have heard this before so it must be true.

POPE!

My thread was started 1st. POPE the other guy.

I have it on very good authority that the suspension rumor is NOT true.

Not sure if this is true, but Cal's show is taped just after the Sat game.

[rumor]Chance McGrady will be starting in place of Joey Dorsey[/rumor]

I am calling the show tomorrow to start my own rumor.
Here are some practice rumors:
'Bailey has left the team.'
'Cal is going to be the new Kentucky coach.'
'Bruce Pearl ate too many jelly doughnuts.'
'Cal has enlisted Dr. Phil to help with the mental aspect of shooting FT's.'
'Rose is staying for another 3 years.'
'Britany Spears was cut from the dance team.'
Help me out.

I don't doubt it...the quotes by some of the players a few weeks ago about other teams being afraid of us and whatnot is very telling - there is a fine line between cockiness and confidence and it seems this team is balancing right now...

It is really just normal SOP for Joey to act that way, nothing to do with cockiness.

If the ref was further than free throw distance there's now way Joey could have hit him with the ball.

It depends on if Joey was aiming at him. If he was, no way, but if he wasn't Joey does accidentally him freethrows sometimes.

People... please believe, this is definitely true about the underhanded toss of the ball and it DID hit a referee squarely in the lower back. I was at the game & it was late in the 2nd half, actualy, if anyone recorded the game, take a look somewhere between the FINAL 8 minutes & before Mr. Dorsey fouled out. I think a timeout was called and as the TIGER PLAYERS were beginning to run to their bench & Joey had the ball in his hand, he threw the ball in an underhanded manner but the ref was busy discussing something with the officials at the table...
The ball tossing is true............. the other issue abut a suspension i've heard nothing about.

That crew had their heads up their a$$es all game so Joey very well could have hit the ref's head.

My brother was sitting close enough that he could hear the Ref blasting Joey for throwing the ball at him. Ref said he would take care of it during the game. He did.
joey holds his temper better but he still pulls some real doozys. He keeps the refs spotlight on and it cause him to get ticky-tack fouls.
