Reds ink Affeldt to one year deal

He's not an amazing pitcher, but he's got excellent stuff and is extremely tough on lefties, not to mention he has experience pitching in a hitter's park. Also, they only had to give him a 1 yr deal. They aren't saddled with some ridiculous multi year commitment.

The one thing i question about this deal is their apparent desire to give him the shot to become part of the rotation. I think he's better suited to the pen. And yes, i realize they already have bray, but in this day in age you need more than one lefty and affeldt is capable of handing the ball to cordero every once in awhile.

Well last year it seemed like we had about 6 lefties in the pen compared to 2 righties. But I would like to see the young guns get a shot in the rotation. A rotation of Harang, Arroyo, Edinson Volquez, Homer Bailey and Johnny Cueto would be fine by me.

Any deal looks like a winner when held up to the shadow of the Eric Milton deal. Is that contract over yet?
