Upon the cancelation of ETSU Football the Buccaneer athletic department was promised one million dollars to be divided up evenly amoungst the other sports. Guess what happened to that money. You guessed it...Athletics never saw the light of day on most of it. Instead it went to let's start a pharmacy school fund. That's right folks, Dave Mullins dropped football to start up a pharmacy school.
We've known that one. They pawned the athletic department and any hope of student interest in the school. Eventually, much like brother b-lo breaking out of the cage, Dave and Paul will retire. The only thing we can hope for is some progress as far as academics and overrall facilities improving while they are still employed by the great state of Tennessee.
Facilities improvement? They will probably brag on getting the soccer stadium built, eventually, and softball, but that's not what the area needs or wants.
I'm convinced a new arena will have to come with City or State involvement. It will take a political movement as much as anything.
People simply aren't giving those two enough money to build the softball stadium. There's no way they will give them enough money for something that counts.
At one time, ETSU athletes did very well in the classroom. The tennis team used to have the highest GPA in the NCAA when Mullins was the coach, for instance.
