The answer is simple $$$.

This is money that flows both ways at ETSU. First there needs to be a drying up of the funds that are currently entering the university. Until some major donors stop giving some serious cash then the administration does not need to deal with a cash flow problem. Second a major donor(s) needs to be found that will publicly state they will support a football program and here is $XXXX to get started. This figure needs to be significant enough for Stanton and Mullins to take notice. Until then all the message board complaining and petitions in the world will not bring football back to ETSU.

It has been good to see some pressure being put in the university from some in the local media but a much bigger outcry needs to be heard. Unfortunitaly, Stanton and Mullins are the ones in power right now and not much is being done to change that from anyone who really can.
Iowa- No.

The answer is that Stanton and Mullins have to go.

If you gave them Ft. Knox to revive the athletic program- I'm positive they'd spend it on buying the golf team their own course before reviving football was even considered.

And I really can't believe we're arguing this.

They simply don't have the athletic vision the rest of the community does for ETSU.
I disagree BucNIowa. I think Stanton and Mullins well protected themselves from any donor fallout by enacting a student athletic fee after football was dropped. I'm sure they saw the writing on the wall and acted quickly. Actually, most people I know, including myself, stopped donating and buying tickets a few years ago - lots of long-time donors mind you. But thanks to student fees, Mullins is well protected financially.

The other point is, it's going to be twice as hard to get "big time donors" to pony up hundreds of thousands of dollars to a president who they don't feel they can trust.

What ETSU truly needs is a Board of Trustees. They won't allow all these unilateral decisions to be made and the dictatorship mentality we have going on right now. Maybe we could convince some of these local politicians to push for the establishment of such a board at ETSU to prevent future mismanagement of the university. I think that might be one of the most effective things you could do to get football back.
