Earlier, we had some discussions about circulating petitions. The Foundation has one circulating and they are supposed to contact us (The Buc Nation) about getting us copies to circulate and get some signatures collected. I'll keep you posted.
Sounds good. Heard you on the morning monster this morning. I was the person that called in about Buc Basketball before you. Thanks for bringing up the football matter. We definitely need to get something orgainized for the App game. If we cant get the board organized to do something, we need to go through the foundation.
I hope it can be a collaborative effort between the two. As far as I know many of us are already foundation members. I know we can get a good turnout.
I had a conversation with a member of the administration last night and he thinks he can help us with the public safety aspect for the demonstration. I am going to be in contact with him this week to get what we need. Once we have that, if the Athletic Dept. tries to shut us down, which I think may happen. We are legal.
We need the media to talk this thing up and see if we can get a huge turnout.
I think we have to build on this momentum, if we are going to get this thing done. Like I said this morning, a tidal wave could be building.
A few things.
I just got back an email from Jerry Robertson saying that anything like this would have to be approved by the BFFF board. So as far as being a BFFF event, push for a later date.
Which I would recommend. Why not Feb. 23? This is a day when ESPN has a home game on ESPN. Why not get national attention, when the Appalachian State game will not even get full support from the student body?
That is a great point Pitt, but I don't know if our momentum will be as strong then. We need to do something soon to capitalize. Even if we push back the date, we need to SOMETHING to keep this on people's minds.
There will be even MORE momentum then.
In fact, if you were to do it on Dec. 30, you'd risk alienating the students (who already voted this down) because you'd hold the event without them.
I'm telling you- Dec. 30 is a bad date. You won't be able to get the media with it being Christmas and there's no way Appalachian State fans will get behind this (would you get behind a "GET APPALACHIAN STATE INTO THE ACC!" movement?).
Now, I will say this- if you prepared this to be an initial movement on the 30th and then pushed for a bigger one on Feb. 23rd- that MIGHT work.
You'll get Dec. 30 attention because it's a Sunday and the Arby's Classic is off that day. So there could be some TV exposure.
However, as far as print media goes, remember on Sunday the sportswriters in general are off. The Press will have one guy covering the game and that will be it- he probably won't want to show up early.
Good point about the students being gone. Didnt even think about that. I think we need to hold something on the 30th...a momentum builder...for a later date. Maybe this could work.
Pitt and others,
The BFFF obviously does not need to approve a demonstration organized by this board. On another thread, I have already offered to help promote the protest through our website, database emails and phone calls. Granted, at this moment, the promotional activity would go something like "We hear a group of people outside the Foundation are organizing an event, if interested, we encourage you to show up."
I can speak to Jerry about this but I think "content of message" and "expenses" are the two primary subjects that need BFFF approval. Even in those instances, I don't think we require Board approval but Officer approval. If you want to hand out literature claiming to express the opion of BFFF or if you want BFFF to spend some money on the event, then that will obviously need to be approved.
That being said, I like the idea of you guys making a small protest and then organizing something bigger whether that is with the BFFF or not.

I like the idea of something on both days. The 30th and 23rd are both good ideas for good reasons. This is sounding good.
I would like for everyone in the dome to be wearing the same "cleverly labled bring back football" tshirt on the bracket buster game.
