Attendance for the Marshall game was 4,080.
Frankly, when I was watching the figures from last year I was a bit miffed the numbers were in the 5,000 range.
That was a message sent by Joe Johnson City that "I like the direction of ETSU athletics and support it."
I realize it's early and historically that's not a bad crowd. But it is a decline, and really, when the team is off the "Greatest Season in ETSU Athletics History" (HA!) you would think the games should be sold out for the season, or at the very least feature no decline.
And though it is early, this is ETSU's primary sport. The students are still on campus. And it's against a historical rival in a "revenge" game that was heavily promoted by ETSU.
It's a positive sign and hopefully the attendance will continue to decline so changes will have to be made.
Staring PittsburghBucs
Pitt's logic is akin to saying...things have to get worse before they get better so let's put Hillary in the white house so the american people will see how bad things get.
There is no valor in losing.
And who said last year was our greatest season ever? Its not even our greatest record ever
David Mullins was saying it was the greatest season ever.
Shooting the messenger, I see.
Typical East Tennessee . . .
And how did this get to smack talk? For the changes to be made it must get worse before it can get better.
As a whole department it was the best season ever based on winning conference championships and placing in the top half of the conference in every category except the one that matters most... The A-Sun sucks and we know that, but the statement he made based on its' context is true, hence winning the all-sports trophies for men and women, as well as the overrall award.
We were last in academics, now that does need to change. Is that what you're talking about Pitt?
If David Mullins said that last year was the greatest season ever he's a bigger moron than I thought.
Yes, Mullins said it repeatedly and tried to promote it.
Overall sports championships is tremendously misleading and another example of how disturbing the ETSU athletic philosophy is- that women's volleyball is as important as men's basketball.
How many sports did ETSU have in 1968, for instance? So are we to believe ETSU had their greatest season this past year (when I would submit to you there has never been a worse time for ETSU athletics) because the men's tennis team got knocked out in the first round of the NCAAs- as compared to the men's basketball team going to the Sweet 16 of the NCAAs just 11 years after leaving the NAIA (and when the NCAA Tourney was far more exclusive than it is now)?
If Northwestern dropped to Conference USA- they would probably win more championships than they ever have before. But this accomplishment would hardly be greater than, say, the Wildcats' 1995 Rose Bowl team.
Saying ETSU had the best athletic season in history last year is like saying Muhammad Ali's greatest victory came against Jerry Quarry.
Ah but in 2007, ETSU did it the right way. Not so with that brutish philosophy of Skeeter Swift!
Like I said, winning in everything but the one thing that's supposed to matter the most... ACADEMICS.
What an insightful comment . . .
By the way- ETSU is now selling holiday packages.
That's generally what you have to do when you're not selling enough seats.
Theyve been selling those holiday packages for years.
And have been playing in front of empty seats for years, too.
Still, you have to wonder. Is this some sort of effort to try to prevent Mountaineers fans from outnumbering Bucs fans on Dec. 30 at Memorial Center?
And will it prevent anything, or will the ASU fans just pay the $25 for the game and leave the other two contests to be played in front of crickets?
I think you both over estimate ASU and underestimate ETSU
It is impossible to underestimate East Tennisee State.
Most ASU fans will put the black and gold up after Friday night, and trade for one of two shades of blue, or possibly red. Funny thing is they aren't dropping the basketball program because they can't compete with Tobacco Road.
