Were you there Wonder?
That game was definitely entertaining, although I wasn't happy with the 2nd half and outcome. Kenny George made an impact on the game that went beyond that triple double. All those pts, rebounds, and blocks and his feet never left the ground! Hopefully CU will do better at Asheville in Dec. Maybe they can pick up the pace and wear KG down......and hit free throws.
I'm foolishly picking CU over App by 1 in the pick'em. Kinda placing hope in the players' facial expressions after the game. They appeared to be disgusted and hopefully they'll come out roaring Wednesday.

You are right about free throws. We have just got to do better than 50% if we expect to win.
Kenny George (the giant) did have a big impact on the game. We didn't have anyone who could even come close to matching up with him.
We still could have won the game though, but the shooting in the second half was off, the tempo was off and the free throws we missed continue to hurt.
I was impressed with the play of Cami the first of the game. I think Dodson is also a very scrappy player and will do well for the Camels. He did not get much playing time but scored 5 points and had the guts to take it up against Kenny George on several occassions. Both of these guys should be good players as they learn the system and mature as players.
What happened to Ruell Pringle. I did not see him play at all on Saturday? We need some senior leadership to step up and make some plays.
I still think the team will get better as the season goes along and should begin to win some games. The way they finished the game showed they didn't quit.
I just don't know if I am confident enough to pick them over App on Wednesday. I plan to be there and I hope we have a good game.

Did you go to the football scrimmage?
How did the team look?
I was not able to get over the scrimmage on Saturday. We had too much going on that evening.

Word is that Ruell has been suspended. He has been asking Laing for a red shirt year due to some personal issues. Laing is refusing to grant the request and if you play in 3 or more games you lose the opportunity to red shirt (as I understand the rule). Laing got annoyed with the constant request from Ruell and suspended him.
If CU doesn't get any more production from Dapo and Eddie and Kyle doesn't pick up the rebounding it is going to be a long season. The lack of a post game will keep this team under 500.

I don't see why he doesn't just give him a redshirt. It is not like we have a lot of Juniors on the squad anyway. We could use him this year but he may be better served to play next year when the underclassmen have a little more experience. We should be much better next year. If he has some personal problems that need to be attended to then what good is it going to do to let him keep playing. It would be better for him to take care of the personal problems and then come back next year and maybe his performance will be better. I could tell something was wrong the first two games because it just appeared that his production and performance on the court were off from last year. But I don't know the whole situation or what is involved so that is a decision that he and the coach will have to make.
I agree that Dapo and Kyle need to pick up the rebounding. Kyle scoring though has really helped us and he is shooting as well as anyone on the team from behind the 3 point line. Dapo doesn't get to play very much. We could have used him more in the Asheville game trying to guard the giant under the basket. The newspaper said that Laing took him out because he took a 3 pointer and was not supposed to. He sat him on the bench the remainder of the game. I can see that he is wanting to make a point and maybe take him out but we could have used him on defense. Take him out and give him a good talking to and then put him back in. If he does it again then put him on the end of the bench and forget he is there.
We are going to need his size if we are going to be successful in conference play this year.
Lets face it we have some good teams in our conference. Belmont, Mercer, ETSU, Jacksonville and Gardner Webb are all going to be a handful this year. We will be fortunate to come out with a win verses any of those teams. THe others we have a good shot at but these will be nearly impossible based on the performances we have seen so far this year.
It is a long season and all that can change. I look forward to hopefully seeing the team improve and the year goes on.
Those are just my thoughts. I think Dapo sitting on the bench most of the game sure did not help us any.
Another thing - if we don't figure out how to make free throws it all really does not matter because you just can't win when you can't even shoot above 50% from the free throw line. That just shows lack of concentration. They need to work on that. We missed enough free throws in the past two games to have put us only a basket or two behind and that could have changed to outcome.
