Full Version: Future Tulsa Football Schedules

Tulsa has completed a home and home with Minnesota, BYU, and Navy.

Tulsa has current and upcoming home and home with New Mexico, Iowa State, and Vanderbilt. Kansas and Army cancelled a previously negotiated home and home series. This info should not be regarded as 100% accurate; there have been quite a few changes in Tulsa's schedule as initially announced. This info based on the latest public info....which may or may not be accurate.

Tulsa will complete a 2-1 deal with Oklahoma with an @Oklahoma game in 2009 and 2011. Oklahoma has indicated they will continue to play Tulsa in the future but not every year. The new deal will reportedly start in 2013 with the same format--one game in Chapman stadium and two at OU's Memorial Stadium. In basketball, Tulsa will play OU @OKC, @Oklahoma, and the third year in Tulsa. OU has indicated they are agreeable to continuing this format in the future.

Tulsa will start a 2-1 with Oklahoma State in 2010. As part of the football agreement, Oklahoma State agreed to a four game basketball game with 2 games in Tulsa and 2 in Stillwater. One game will be played in Tulsa's Reynolds Center, its on campus arena, and one game will be played in the new downtown 18,000 seat Bank of Oklahoma (BOA) Arena. All revenue from BOA Arena game goes to Tulsa. Oklahoma State has indicated they would like to extend the football series.

I regard the following story from KTUL as a postive...obviously, OSU wants to continue the Tulsa game. I regard this as the opening of negotiations. OSU will have an expanded stadium of about 60,000 to 65,000 fans and, historically, Tulsa has brought more fans to Stillwater than anyone else except Oklahoma Sooners. I regard TU athletic director Cunningham remarks as a polite way of say no deal unless OSU sweetens the pot...and the mention of the four TU/OSU basketball games at the end of the story is not coincidence....that four game basketball series was part of the previous 2-1 TU/OSU football deal.

TU DECLINES OSU SCHEDULE OFFER
From News Channel 8 (KTUL)
http://www.ktul.com/news/stories/1207/479611.html

The University of Tulsa is declining an offer from Oklahoma State for three football games starting in 2015.

OSU atheltic director Mike Holder and associate atheltic director Dave Martin proposed games between the Cowboys and Hurricane in Stillwater in 2015 and 2017 and in Tulsa 2016.

A TU spokesman says Tulsa athletic director Bubba Cunningham doesn't want to schedule games that far in the future.

OSU and TU currently have football games scheduled in Stillwater in 2010 and 2012 and in Tulsa 2013.

The two will also play in basketball for four straight years starting in 2008.

SOURCES; TULSA WILL PLAY ARKANSAS IN FOOTBALL IN 2008
By Eric Bailey, World Sports Editor, 1/11/2008

Tulsa will play at Arkansas during the 2008 football season, sources said on Friday afternoon. The game is scheduled for Nov. 1 in Fayetteville.

The Golden Hurricane has completed its nonconference schedule for the upcoming year. Tulsa opens at North Texas on Sept. 6 before playing home games against New Mexico (Sept 20) and Central Arkansas (Sept. 27) in the renovated Chapman Stadium.

Arkansas will replace Texas Tech on the TU football schedule. Army was supposed to return a home and home game to Tulsa, but Army canceled its return trip and paid Tulsa a buy-out fee to cancel the contract. TU officials didn't release the amount Army paid.

The TU-Arkansas game will reunite Guz Malzahn and the Razorbacks. Malzahn spent one season as the Hogs's offensive coordinator before leaving to take the same position at TU in 2007. His Golden Hurricane offense led the nation in total offense.

Arkansas will be led by Bobby Petrino, who will be in his first season at the school after taking over for Houston Nutt.

It will be the 71st meeting between the two schools and the first since 2003. Arkansas leads the series 51-16-3.
Doesn't the Kansas series start next year? I think 2008 and 2010.
texas tech?

oh boy that'll be a shootout.

The Kansas game is off for 2008. Jayhawks have announced their schedule.

Remember reading something about at start of season this year. Can't remember if it was cancelled, or moved back to another season.

There has been a lot of misinformation about scheduling lately IMO because most of the BCS schools are playing bate and switch with their schedules. Anyone who has kept up with fb over the years knows that any power conf school will occasionally schedule a game at their home stadium/arena they think they can win from a nonBCS opponent then buy out of the contract when time comes to honor their commitment to play the return game. I think this "may" be the case involving KU and Texas Tech. Playing hardball with schedules is an old trick used as far back as Frank Broyles years when he was "forced" to play TU in Feyetteville every year by the legislature. Ya Sure! I think there's a good chance we'll never see any BCS team in Chap/Skelly who signs a contract that puts TU on the road during the first year of a contract. This is why I have been so leery of the "so called" upgrade of Skelly and Bubba's self serving use of schedules to justify the renovation. I think we might see OU or OSU in Tulsa, but on a declining home favorable basis in the future. One of the reasons Bubba wouldn't reschedule OSU is his "awakening" of what is beginning to occur IMHO.
