First-Class Upgrade

Mark Teixeira represents a major upgrade for the Braves at first base. A look at their offensive production at the position in 2007:

Category Stats Rank
Average .211 T-29th
HR 12 T-18th
RBIs 41 30th

A preliminary agreement has been reached between the teams for Atlanta to receive Teixeira and left-handed reliever Ron Mahay from Texas for catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, minor league shortstop Elvis Andrus and two minor league pitchers.

Baseball America rates Saltalamacchia and Andrus as the Braves' top two prospects in their organization.

The Fort-Worth Star Telegram, citing a Rangers source, is reporting that the two pitchers Texas will receive are 19-year-old right-hander Nestali Feliz and another pitcher to be determined.

thats is alot to give up, in my opinion
teixeira can be a great player. though, admittedly, nobody really knows which one they're getting. It is an awful lot to give up. On the other hand he's not a true rental player because they get him for 2 octobers. It's a dangerous move for schuerholz, but i think it's a decent gamble. I will say this though, shouldn't the braves have been focusing more on getting a third starter and a lefthanded reliever?
