Disclaimer: The title has been edited and this disclaimer posted for Memphis Blazer's & others clarification on the intent of this thread. This thread is intended as a final purging or clensing from the UAB system or Watson Brown. A separate thread praising the accomplishments of Watson Brown has been created to be politically correct and offer those who do not want to participate in this thread an opportunity to praise the many wonderful accomplishments of Watson Brown.
Since this is such a slow time around here for sports I thought I would take a minute to start a thread to pay tribute to a man that not only has led UAB to some of it's most embarrassing moments in school history (see Britneygate) but proceeded to take UAB to the next level. A level so low that not even a visit by the NCAA could do near as much devastation to our program as Zero has done under his watch.
So in that vein I present to you a thread for your posting pleasure for Blazer fans to pay tribute to the man who holds the all time active loosingest record in college football history, a many only a mother and Mack could love, Watson "ZERO" Brown.
Post all you favorite photos of Watson, doing what he does best and if it turns out to be a good thread, I just might send it to him............
let's kick things off with a little song I wrote a couple of years ago while drunk on Corona.................
This was one of Watson's worst hires EVER!
The Day the Defense Died
“Ode to Wayne Bolt”
(sung to the tune of American Pie)
A long, long time ago
I can still remember when the defense used to make me smile
And I know that if they had a chance,
That they could stop and offensive attack and maybe a safety every once in a while
September used to make me shiver with every hit that was delivered
Bad news for the quarterback, he couldn’t get up for another snap
I can’t remember if I cried when I read about that contract signed
Something warned me deep in side
The day Wayne Bolt was hired
We were singing
Oh my, he’s a really large guy
Trojan fans were laughing and we didn’t know why
Left Troy with a smile and a wave goodbye
Singing I need some Full Moon Pie
I need some Full Moon Pie
Did you see that missed tackle
While our defensive coordinator he began to cackle and make a sailor blush or two
Watson I know you’re in Love with his plan
It kind of sucks just like our band you both don’t have a clue
I think I’ll put on some Rhythm and Blues
We were wild fans like a broncin’ buck with Blazer flags on our pickup trucks
I knew we were out of luck the day the defense died
Oh my, he’s a really big guy
Country ham mashed potatoes and a cherry pie
Them good ole fans would just sit and cry
Singing this is day the defense died
For a couple of years we played that damn zone
But our cornerbacks still were all alone but that’s not how it used to be
When Bolt yelled for a delayed blitz again
The quarterback just through where he had been and burned us once again
Another game lost and another blown lead Watching this makes my eyes bleed
Another season was adjourned, but the verdict was returned
While Watson gave that ole coach talk how it was always the offense’s fault
We got drunk in the dark the day the defense died.
Oh my, he’s a really big guy
Sweat potatoes, cole slaw, and garlic bread on the side
Them good ole fans just continued to cry
The day the defense died
Helter Skelter in a stadium swelter the fans ran for the fallout shelter 24 point a game allowed in the second half
We knew the other team was gonna pass but the jester on the sideline was passing gas
This bend but don’t break can just sucks ***
Now at halftime we were all a craze as the flag line started to graze
The band was trying to take the field while Wayne Bolt he refused to yield
9 minutes still left look what we revealed
the day the defense died We started singing
Oh my, he’s a really big guy
Golf cart would help but Watson wondered why
Just blamed the players, fans, and some midget guy
This is the day the defense died
And there we were all in one place
Another season lost all our dreams erased and no time left to start again
So come on Watson be nimble, Watson be quick give Wayne Bolt a good hard kick right on out the football office door
As I watched Bolt on his stage my hands were clenched in fists of rage
No angel born in Hell could break that Wayne Bolt spell
As the flames climbed high into the night to light the sacrificial light
I saw Jeff Bower laughing with delight the day the defense died
My, my he’s a really huge guy
Pork chops giblet gravy with dressing on the side
Them frustrated fans just continued to cry
Singing curse the day Wayne Bolt was hired
Curse the day Wayne Bolt was hired
Met a Blazer fan who sang the blues
I asked him for some happy news, but he just cried and turned away
I went down to that sacred store where I saw the game years before but the VCR wouldn’t play.
But in the stands the fans screamed, some of them cried, some of them dreamed of the season that was pissed away.
And the three men I admire the most, Mike Davis, Gene Bartow, and Al McGuire’s ghost, they caught the last train to the coast the day the defense died.
Bye bye Mr. really large guy
Take your Chevy back to Troy and don’t even say bye
Them good ole fans were drinking whisky and rye
Singing this was the day the defense died.
I think I penned this one after the SMU debacle at LF.
Letdown Brown
Sung to the tune of Bad Bad Leroy Brown
Now the Southside of Birmingham
Is where the Blazers hang around
And if you go down there, you better beware
Of a coach called Letdown Brown
Now letdown he’s in trouble
Cause his records no good no more
All the Blazer fans are yellin’ for his head
And the donors won’t give no more
Now he’s Let Down Letdown Brown
Let everyone down in the whole damn town
Let down Dr Gauld, Dr. Garrison and us all.
Now letdown He’s a dresser
He digs those sweater vests
He likes to wave his bowl ring for everyone to see
Strut and poke out his ole’ chest
He has an offensive coordinator
But no one has a clue
Why he calls all the plays, pisses our season away
And it’s a mystery to me and you
Now he’s Let Down Letdown Brown
Let everyone down in the whole damn town
Let down the Gang Green
And all the boosters in between
Now the DC is a big ole’ boy
Goes by the name of Bolt
Does a good job of cussing out his players
But he sure as hell can’t coach
Now Watson’s teams you can always bet
Just about the middle of the year
They will drop a few
And he doesn’t have a clue
Why they do it every year.
Now Letdown has a decision to make
It’s not hard for anyone to see
Just resign today
Don’t piss our program away
And just become the Blazer AD.
Now he’s Let Down Letdown Brown
Got everyone down in the whole damn town
Do a favor for us all
Step down before you fall.
Singin’ Let Down Letdown Brown
Let every one down in the whole damn town
Let us down one and all
Step down before you fall
Watson stated that the trouble he had at UAB was all due to [name].
Coach zero also thought [name] was bad luck.
If only [name] would root for the other team, we could of won a few more games.
How the heck did I get into this????
You're freakin' hillarious!

BandGrad Wrote:How the heck did I get into this????
Uh oh. Here we go again.
OK, I'll play.
Thank you Watson Brown for UAB's first bowl game, something I didn't think I would see in my lifetime, and something I doubt I will see again.
Thank you for one of the winningest records in CUSA.
Thank you for never getting arrested for driving drunk.
Thank you for never getting UAB on probation with NCAA.
You're right, this is fun.
Thank you for coaching UAB to a victory over LSU, at Baton Rouge!
Thank you for a win over East Carolina when they were #17.
Thank you for giving Blazers hope for football with by playing Auburn close and almost beating Tennessee.
Thank you for sweater vests that are on sale 75% off at the book store.
Thanks for getting Miss State to play 2 games at Legion Field.
and for being 1-0 vs Nick Saban
never mind................F-it. Maybe we should just erect a Watson Brown statue next to Gene Bartow's?
Watson Brown was the greatest thing ever to happen to UAB. Hell, I sure will miss those 3 and 5 win seasons......... Go ahead and hijack the thread Memphis Blazer, Lord knows if Sax would have done it you would have bi*ched to anyone who would bother to read it.........

Great job recruiting - Thank You
Crummy job teaching fundamentals - No Thanks
Great job getting maximum effort - Thank You
Crummy job calling plays in so many critical situations - No Thanks
Great job helping save us from Black Friday - Thank You
Crummy job dealing with Coach Sullivan - No Thanks
My main problem sir, is you just stayed around way too long. If you had gracefully walked away a few years back, you would actually have a legacy here.
Thank you for getting us so close, but never over the hump. (losing records)
Thank you for brilliant play calling. (playaction pass on 4th and long)
Thank you for your good clock management. (two timeouts in a row to make a dumba$$ call or taking timeouts and then getting delay of game penalties)
Thank you for the memories of the classic, you just made a dumba$$ mistake, looks you gave players on the sideline.
Thank you for throwing away so many victories.
Thank you for zero conference championships.
Thank you for blaming everyone else but yourself for your problems. (facilities, bad luck, etc.)
And last but not least, thank you for leaving us in worst shape than you found us. (we were winning before you got here)

Waiting for Memphis Blazer's response.
: )
Thanks for the "ohhhh sooo darn close" games, especially the big ones. The moral victories were still posted in the "L" column.
Thanks for getting us started in division 1-A. Thanks for leaving us in division 1-A: That was another "ohhhh sooo darn close" one.
Sorry but Watson should have been fired over "Britneygate" Do your homework. That's all I need to say about that........
Watson Brown was not a good football coach or administrator and I refuse to sugar coat it. You don't see any of us hanging out on the TT message boards but if we feel like a final "purging" or "clensing" it is well withing our right as it is for Memphis Blazer & others to praise him. This board needs a dose of "lighten the hell up"from time to time...........
What is "britneygate?" According to you and others on this board for years, that event never happened. Now it is Watson's fault???
This board sure has changed its tune regarding that.
BTW,
Quote:This board needs a dose of "lighten the hell up"from time to time...........
I agree wholeheartedly. You shouldn't get angry when a tongue in cheek thread doesn't go the way you want it to.

I did a lot of homework on "Britneygate" and we will just have to disagree on who should have been fired for what, but like him or not it you cant pin that whole disaster on Watson...
And as far as a final purging or cleansing, we have been having a constant purging and/or cleansing since last season. I have never before told anyone to stop, or that their opinion was wrong...most of the hand-wringing is justified, I didnt want Watson to stay as coach, and think the program better for his departure.
I just dont think the guy was a total loser and dont think he was on a mission to destroy UAB athletics....if that means I am paying tribute to him, then I guess I am, and deserve to be tossed onto a separate thread...I always thought this was a place to discuss differences of opinion regarding a shared love of UAB athletics...I will try to pay more attention to the parameters of acceptable content for each thread in the future.

As long as you have Zero and Wayne Bolt together it wouldn't have mattered.

edited..
Watson is a good average coach and should be praised for the handling of BB and his management of the UAB football program..
Memphis Blazer is right, how foolish of me.
let me take a swig of that green Kool-Aid again.......
Well, as ole "Shug" used to say "You're so right Attalla". This is so funny. Your probably right, I just criticized him so much he couldn't keep his mind on what he was suppose to be doing, coaching football.
Wow, all I can say Attalla is you are one very sore loser.
When someone doesn't agree with your opinion, it is always the green koolaid comment.
Unless everyone plays exactly the way you want to play, you get mad, reshuffle the threads to change completely what everyone is trying to say, and in general you become very very immature.
You want everyone to think that those who disagrees with the idea of continuingly wallowing in what Watson did wrong must be against it because they are Watson supporters. That is not true and you know it. As an administrator, you should be above this silliness. Some very good comments were made about moving on, but you continue to pout and be sarcastic because someone disagreed with you.
I'm sorry. From now on, I will let you play your childish games. If I get banned because of this post, that is fine. You will have proven my point.
Good Lord MB, WTF do you want?
Why in the hell would you be banned? (even though you are in violation of the AUP) If I didn't ban you for your mistreatment of Sax and the constant baiting why would I ban you now? Now we can let this drop or we can continue, it's entirely up to you.........

:lmfao:If you banned everyone for mistreatment of Sax, you would have a pretty empty board right now.
and quit putting words in my mouth so to speak............
Like I said, we can end it now or continue it's up to you........
Just let it die, this thread was a mistake........
Its dead Attalla...I promise I wasnt intentionally derailing...
we have more important things to argue about than watson brown :)
I agree with that statement.............
