The Transformers Movie thread got me wondering, what movies have all of you guys seen this summer, and what did you think about them?

So far, the surprise for me has been Ratatouille. That is the best animated movie I've ever seen, and, as far as I'm concerned, the best movie of the year to date. Everything about it was great.

Live Free or Die Hard wasn't too bad. It kind of blows that it's only rated PG-13, but I think there's going to be an unrated DVD, which will make the movie that much better. It was nice to see John McClane on screen again, an ***-kicker doing what he does best -- kicking ***. Good change of pace from Johnny Depp in eye makeup and Tobey Maguire in...uhh, eye makeup.

On my To See List: Transformers, 1408, Mr. Brooks (if I can find it anywhere, I might have waited too long)
Live Free or Die Hard was pretty good as long as you don't take it seriously. It is full of one-liners, and mindless action. It seems like the writers got together and came up with a lot of cool action scenes, and then they built a plot around those scenes.

Ocean's 13 was pretty good. Nothing great, but still enjoyable. Of course, no sequel to Ocean's 11 will live up to expectations, but at least it seemed like the writers tried, unlike in Ocean's 12.

Evan Almighty was decent. I always enjoy Steve Carrel and Morgan Freeman. This movie isn't amazing or really hilarious. It is just funny and enjoyable. The ending is a bit cheesy, but I didn't expect much more from a kids movie based on the story of Noah's Ark.

I just recently saw 28 Weeks Later(even though it came out a while ago) and I enjoyed it very much. I liked it just as much as 28 days later. 3 minutes into the movie the action starts, and it stays intense and keeps your heart pounding the rest of the way. If you have seen 28 Days Later, it is a lot like that, but with a much larger budget.
"Knocked Up" was pretty funny if you liked "Anchorman" and similar movies.

I'm eagerly awaiting the new Harry Potter movie.
Well, being a father of an 8-year-old boy, I don't get to see too much grown-up fare.

We have seen Shrek 3 (sucked), Spiderman 3 (sucked), Pirates of the Caribbean 3 (sucked) and Surf's Up (tolerable, but I'm sick of penguin movies).

My son still wants to see The Fantastic Four, Transformers and Ratatouille. I imagine we'll see at least two, if not all three, of those movies this week.
I was a little skeptical about 28 Weeks Later. I really enjoyed 28 Days Later, but I think one of the things I liked about it was the low-budget feel. 28 Weeks Later looks way too polished.

Fantastic Four....if you liked the first one, you'd probably like the sequel. Some things don't make sense -- how does Richards' shirt stretch along with his arms? does the guy expose his dress shirts to cosmic radiation? and since when is Jessica Alba white? and why do they keep making her say things in movies? -- but at least they hit pretty close to the mark on the Surfer.
On a five-star system (not sure when 'summer' started as far as movies go):
Shrek 3 *
Spider Man 3 **
Pirates of the Caribbean **
Mr. Brooks ***** (disturbing, but fantastic!)
Evening ** (depressing, but well-acted)
Georgia Rule ** (a mother-daughter film)
The Invisible *
Disturbia ****
Knocked Up **** (LOVED IT!)
Waitress ** (had high expectations, but was disappointed)

Still want to see :
Ratatouille
1408
Evan Almighty
A Mighty Heart
License to Wed

Want to see when released:
Harry Potter
Transformers
Hairspray
Talk to Me
I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
The two movies not yet released that I'm looking forward to the most are Harry Potter and Bourne Ultimatum. Transformers was better than I expected. I should finally be going to see Fantastic Four and Knocked Up at some point this week. Ratatouille, License to Wed, and I Now Pronounce you Chuck and Larry all look like good funny movies. Unlike all of you, I enjoyed Shrek and Pirates.

I have only seen Shrek and Pirates as well and enjoyed them too. I will probably see all those you mentioned except Knocked Up. I have heard the language is just as bad as 40 Yr Old Virgin. Every other word doesn't have to be the f-bomb to make a movie funny or enjoyable. I must be getting older.

OT-I turned 34 on June 28th and none of you said happy birthday. 03-melodramatic
Spider-Man 3 - just okay. too many characters, too overly dramatic in parts. a definite let-down after Spider-Man 2 and even part 1
Pirates 3 - I fell asleep. Admittedly I didn't really think part 2 was very good. Also Keira Knightly still did not take her clothes off.
Disturbia - Surprisingly good. Plus it has the kid from Transformers.
The Messengers - Typical scary movie. Skip it
Zodiac- A bit long but very good. Will buy it on DVD.
Fantastic Four 2/Silver Surfer - About as good (or bad) as the first one. The comic book was pretty lame IMO so if they make a decent fun movie, I think they did as good a job as can be expected considering the source material.
300 - Best movie I've seen in a long time. Will buy the DVD on the day it comes out. Right up there with Fight Club, Braveheart, Pulp Fiction as my all-time favorites
Transformers - far exceeding my expectations (especially since it was directed by Michael Bay). I will go see it again, maybe two more times.
Live Free or Die Hard - I thought it was the best one since the first. The jet scene was way over the top and so was the hacking. The Mac kid makes a good team with Bruce Willis.
28 Months Later- Pretty bad. Almost bad enough to ruin the first one (28 Weeks Later)
Deathproof/Grindhouse - IMO Awful, but some folks liked it. The first one, Grindhouse, is decent, but the second one was awful. This stuff was not on the Pulp Fiction/Kill Bill level, more on the Dusk Till Dawn. If you liked that you might like this, but I personally want my money and 3 hours back.

I'd still like to see 1408 and The Simpsons. I am Legend in December looks really good.

Damn I've seen a ton of movies it seems. 03-razz

The question is have you seen them with a date, or did you see them sitting all by your lonesome?
I have seen a lot of movies recently, and the previews before them have been pretty good. A few of them stood out that I really want to see.

American Gangster- It has Denzel Washington and Russel Crowe, and is directed by Ridley Scott. Looks very good.

I Am Legend- The trailer doesn't show much, but it looks interesting.

Talk To Me- Don Cheadle plays Ralph Waldo "Petey" Greene Jr, who is an outspoken ex-con with a radio show. It is a true like story, and it is made by Focus Features, which normally makes good movies.

As a warning, the language is probably worse. I thought it was hysterical in parts, but a lot more touchy-feely in parts than 40-Year Old Virgin, Anchorman, etc.

Spiderman 3 was a little disappointing. Without giving anything away, I hated what they did with Harry Osborn's character.

I want to go see the new Die Hard, but the PG-13 rating angers me.

I have to agree with you on the animation. Best ever hands down. The scenes in the water were great. The rain hitting the water and bubbling up and the reflections were so real. However, the story was good, but not great. I think the movie was just a way for Pixar to showcase what they can do now. Every scene had this huge build up to the climax. I guess there was nowhere to go but up after Toy Story, and Pixar keeps proving that they can top whatever they do with the next movie. I cannot wait for WALL-E to come out next year.
Those all sound nice. Last movie I saw in the theater was Titanic, And that sucked because my history teacher already told me how it ended.03-hissyfit

Kidding...03-lmfao
I saw Disturbia awhile back. That was a really good movie, clasic type horror flick. It was suspensefull and had Sarah Roemer's cute *** in a bikini.

Am I alowed to say ***?

Anyway, I want to see Transformers on the big screen.
Knocked Up: really funny in some parts but it seemed like the movie lasted 9 months. Movie would've been much better if Katherine Heigl lost the bra in her sex scenes

Ocean's 13: decent. not a bad movie but not great either

Transformers: pretty damn good

next up for me: Bourne Ultimatum

Just one of the things wrong with SM3. It wasn't a horrible flick by any means. But if this was/is going to be the last Spidey film (for a while, anyways), it didn't 'end' as well as it could have.

I Am Legend- Based on the book/movie The Omega Man. I don't know very much about it, but the trailer looks interesting.

Grrrrrrrr!!! I Am Legend is not based on Omega Man. Omega Man was a very, very poor interpretation of Richard Matheson's stellar novella I Am Legend. From what I've heard, this movie won't be any better when compared with the story. Do yourself a favor: read the book before the movie comes out. Sorry. [/rant]
Oh, sorry about that. It has been corrected. I plan on reading the book before I see it. If there is ever a movie based on a book, I usually try to read the book first.

Also, I just saw a new trailer for Bourne Ultimatum, and I am now even more excited to see it.
Bourne Ultimatum Trailer
So far this is how I would grade the movies I've seen this year:

300 - A+
Fantastic Four - B+ (Damn that J. Alba is hott!)
Spider Man - C+ (Good action; story line sucked)
Pirates of the Caribbean - B (A tad too long however IMO)
1408 - C (Not a lick of scary)
Transformers - A+ (Damn that M. Fox is hott!)
Live Free or Die Harder - B (The girl that played Willis's daughter needed more screen time)
Knocked Up - B (It is no the funniest movie ever but the trailer didn't show the best parts.)
Mr. Brooks - B+ (Too bad a lot more people haven't seen it
28 Weeks - B+ (Maybe even better than the 1st one)
Ocean's 13 - B+ (Pacino is the man, cast is great too)

Same here. Only summer movie I have seen was Ratatouille. While it was great (it was a Pixar after all) it is in my opinion the weakest of the all the Pixars.

And I was somewhat surprised that it showed someone getting drunk and the story mentioned a child born out of wedlock. Not that these are big deals, but G rated movies did not used to involve those themes.
I havent seen many of the summer movie fare... The last movie I saw was Transformers. I wanted to see Shrek 3, Pirates 3 and Spider 3 and fantastic 4 2, but havent yet, and it may be too late lol so I'll wait for the DVD's..

I WILL Be going to see Harry Potter when it comes out! Cant WAIT!! WOOT!02-13-banana
