Im sure most of yall have heard about this, really stupid by Saban if you ask me. I mean how hard is it to not make comments that are insensitive? Just dont do it. Even if he didnt mean it to be insensitive (and it is fairly obvious he didnt) just dont say stuff like this.

Why? Why should we live in a culture where people have to guard their every word and only tell you what they want you to hear? I've had enough of that. But, I guess if I really believed that, people like sports announcers would be saying f***, s***, and G**D*** stuff like that all the time. Personally I don't think what Saban said is insensitive. I doubt if there are more than 4 or 5 people in the whole state of Alabama that were offended by it. Plus, Saban was just repeating what someone told him in a joke. Plus, he hasn't lived in Alabama all his life has he? How does he know what local slang is really offensive and really isn't? The public would be much better informed if we just let people say what they were really thinking and feeling and not try to always read racism into something. And I'm going to say something real insensitive here. I wonder what will happen to me. Anyway, all you racism police in the media can kiss my big fat hairy conservative white @ss. How's that? ;-)
Hey I am about the most irreverent people you will meet, Ill say some pretty outlandish and offensive stuff to get a rouse out of people. I know the past couple threads I have started show otherwise but I am pretty much the opposite of PC. BUT I am not under the spotlight like a guy like Saban is. When you are in his kind of position you just have to be more careful about what you say. This kind of thing may affect recruiting, and Saban, given his recent history, may already be fighting an uphill battle in that department. If I say off color and otherwise crazy **** nobody but those within hearing distance of me care, but when Saban does the whole country hears it. It would be one thing if he was trying to be insensitive but he wasnt, you could tell by the way he said it, he was just making a description of the person in the story. Look at Bobby Knight, that guy will say pretty much whatever he feels like saying but I dont think you would ever hear him call someone coon ass, certainly not around a bunch of reporters. I dont know what is wrong with Saban but his mouth sure gets him into a lot of trouble.
I've worked with lots of people from La. None that I worked with were offended by coon ass. They referred to themselves as coon asses, and seemed to be proud of it.
