Without knowing who the candidates will be, which third party do you most relate to, GB?

The problem is that I most relate to the Republican Party (far right however). I am not Libertarian because I am way right socially. Economically, I am back towards the center. I have no idea what party I will line up with. I will just have to do a lot of research on the candidates.
I actually voted for Nader once. Too far left but it was a protest vote since the usual candidates were unimpressive. I've voted both Republican and Democratic in the past.
I still need to find out what these candidates really think about some of these issues before I'll have any clue whether I'll vote for any of them.
i don't have alot of choices in oklahoma.
i have
Democrat
Republican
Independent
nothing else.
i'm finacially conservative but socially liberal.

Oh Whigs wherefore art thou?
I'm just joshing you. I relate to your frustration. And I really don't know anything about the Whig Party.
tulsaman and I are pretty much in line... sounds like you are a candidate for the libertarian party :)
I would just like a candidate I want to vote for rather than picking against who I wouldn't want.

if only they recognized it here in this hear backasswards state.
most americans dont have a party that really represents them. a plurality of americans are center-right economically, but center-left socially. there is not a party that represents that demographic.
third parties dont last long in our republic, however, major parties have been replaced throughout history. i believe that time is coming again. the only question is which party will resist change the least and be destroyed by the critical mass of opinion.
The Republican Party seems to be moving to the center. I am not a centrist socially, and I tend to put a little more weight to the social issues, so I will be moving away from the Pubs (again).

They should all start voting libertarian.

both parties seem to have strong coalitions moving to the center. the democrats have the blue dogs and the DLC, and the republicans have individuals like hagel, spector, rudy, etc... who are in the center(center-left). however, it remains to be seen which party will move into the center quicker.

the libertarian party is historically run by some strange fellows. doesnt go well with most in the mainstream.

Oh I know. There are some weirdos at the top. I wish we had some more normal people.

And while I agree with them on a lot of the social and fiscal issues, their foreign policy plank is doo-doo.
I'll likely vote Libertarian in '08 anyway, though, unless the Pubs find a better candidate or it looks like a vote for the LP will help Hillary or Obama.
Hey, maybe I go Constitution Party.
Quote:Seven Principles of the Constitution Party are:
1. Life: For all human beings, from conception to natural death;
2. Liberty: Freedom of conscience and actions for the self-governed individual;
3. Family: One husband and one wife with their children as divinely instituted;
4. Property: Each individual's right to own and steward personal property without government burden;
5. Constitution: and Bill of Rights interpreted according to the actual intent of the Founding Fathers;
6. States' Rights: Everything not specifically delegated by the Constitution to the federal government is reserved for the state and local jurisdictions;
7. American Sovereignty: American government committed to the protection of the borders, trade, and common defense of Americans, and not entangled in foreign alliances.
Hey, its a start.

I should have said that. I was thinking you might go constitution party. They are pretty close to republicans as is. Plus they are openly Christian.

I might have to disagree with that. I think more Americans are center-right socially, and center-left economically...at least working-class Americans. I think if the dems' wen't back to a blue-collar, populist approach, and ditched the left-wing wackos, they could take over the security/soccer mom/NASCAR dad vote.

i say center right economically because most americans believe in low taxes and moderate to little government in their economic lives. socially, most americans are "hear no evil, see no evil". if it doesnt adversely affect their lives or the lives of their family, then so be it.
i agree with you that the dems need a more populist strategy. however, a populist in the 1920-60s and a present day populist are two different animals. to be effective today, populism needs to target the middle class and their(our) sense of enbourgeoisment. basically, low personal income tax, moderate regualtion of corporatations, and effective protection for small investors.
