Don't read ahead if you're not a geek or you don't know what a Pentium III is. Don't even bother reading the thread. Really. Go away.
Great tales in IT:
I go to a new client... a big name local business. They've having all sorts of computer problems. Most of them are due to somebody being utterly incompetent when installing and configuring MS Server 2003 and the various client computers in the building. I fix the problems over the course of a few hours. A young emo chic comes up to me and asks me if I can make the two Apple computers in the building work on their mainframe. I tell her, "No, I don't use Apples, I don't repair Apples, I don't care for Apple at all. But if it makes you feel better, I use Linux and not Windows." She sits in stunned silence for a moment before saying, "Well maybe you shouldn't work on anything here." She then storms off.
Later on, the person in charge asks me what to do with the two Apples, b/c they had some "MacDoc" come out, and wanted $1,500 to replace each system with new machines. Apparently these computers are too slow to do what they want. Turns out the computers are dual G4s .... and I just setup a Pentium III 600 Mhz client earlier. After revealing to her that the 4x less powerful PC was doing just fine, she asks me what I would do. I suggested the most bang for the buck would be to purchase two $350 eMachines systems (tower, monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, printer), and get a discount from Microsoft to upgrade them to XP Pro. She agrees.
Result: Apple fangirl will be Apple-less in the immediate future. PWNED.
i read the disclaimer and fit into the parameters, yet still read the story. It gets a thumbs up. Funny stuff.
I had a guy today that had a Pentium III that we were going to swap out with a brand new out of the box Dell GX745. Dude wanted to keep his computer. Couldn't understand why we had to upgrade it. So after 10 minutes of fighting with him, and him bitching about everything while I am swapping it out, he complains about the new keyboard. Says its to small and wants to keep his old IBM keyboard from the 80's. I told him the new machines didn't come with COM2 ports and they are phasing them out...Bitched some more and wanted me to look for a converter. I was freaking in shock with this guy. SO I sat the new keyboard on the desk and said take it or leave it. He finally took it. Even wanted to keep his mouse...It was USB so I let him keep his old ball mouse. What a clown.

The tactile feel on some of those old IBM keyboards is really REALLY good... as for the rest, what a tool.
Looked a little like this...
Except really dirt and old looking
I have one of those little Dell keyboards. I hate that thing. It is so light, that end up chasing that thing all over my desk.
It is just like this one...
The one's with a little more weight suited my lazy self much better.

KState1125, I can see myself being that guy. I love the old IBM keyboard because it's the only keyboard that comes close to having keys hard enough for me to be able to type on. I can go about 85 or 90WPM ( no mistakes) with this keyboard, but my fingers just collapse on the newer keyboards. I used a 5-pin DIN to OS2 adapter on this keyboard. I think it was made in 1994. You can see the IBM logo in the upper left corner of the keyboard.
I only upgrade every 10 years. I used a 286 from 1989 to 2000 and used all DOS applications. In 2000 a guy gave me this Micron Pent II and I put the TDK CD burner in it and added some RAM and I also downloaded the latest BIOS from Intel for the motherboard and installed it. I also added a 80GB harddrive. This machine was made in Dec/97. I don't plan to upgrade until around 2010. I'm using Windows ME.
Also here's a pic of Huggy at a TCU basketball game (2-25-05) giving the pitch to the refs. I think the TCU Showgirls are saying, "are you ever going to get off the floor so we can do our thing?" Haha.

The thing I like about the old IBM keyboards is the "click". You can tell each key stroke is picked up due to the click. Personally, I like the old IBM keyboard best as well. Today I use the small dell keyboard, however.

Yeah, and not only that, I like it! I've heard Windows Me described as a huge service pack for Windows 98. At least I can switch over and run my old DOS programs with Windows Me. You can't do that with later versions of Windows can you?

Linux + DOS emulators = win
It depends on your software as to whether it will work with Windows 2000/XP/Vista.
The computer that I am typing on right now is still running Windows 98.
