The Shins, Bright Eyes.
Ike Reilly is playing with Tom Morello for some benifit.
Jeff Tweedy is doing some solo shows before Wilco hits the road again.

Viva Voce is playing in Chicago on Feb 11, I believe. Wouldn't mind seeing them play. Too bad not many acts make it to Cincinnati. Though Of Montreal is coming in March. And I have to wait until May to see Animal Collective. Asobi Seksu is playing this Sunday, but I gots to work.

February just keeps getting better and better in Chicago. Add Matt and Kim to the list of bands coming in Februrary who I'd like to see but will probably not make it too. What's worse, not getting them or not being able to take advantage of them when they're here? *sigh

I almost bought Matt and Kim's cd today, but I've only heard a couple songs. Worth buying?
Will be seeing Flogging Molly in Charlotte on 3/11.

I've only heard a few songs as well. I just heard them for the fist time Monday. After that, I went to the net to check out more. As you probably already know, it's no brainer-fun rock n roll and it sounds like their live shows are a lot of fun. If you like what you've heard so far, it might be worth buying just to support them.
I see you brought up Viva Voce. That's another band that I literally heard for the first time just a couple weeks ago. I've been meaning to check them out. You like?

Seeing Matt and Kim live would be a whole lot of fun. They def seem to have a lot of energy. I just bought Viva Voce's album Get Yr Blood sucked out. It's a pretty solid pick up. Beautiful, We do not f*ck around, and So many Miles are qualilty songs.
Sufjan and My Brightest Diamond are playing in Cincinnati for the MusicNow festival in April. But.. it's a three day event and it's $60. Peter, Bjorn and John are playing in Columbus in May. Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin is playing in Cincinnati end of March. I'm gonna go see Of Montreal in a few weeks. Can't wait for that.
Pretty sure I'm going to have a concert weekend coming up in April. Friday night the 13th is Lucero in Dekalb, and then Local H is playing Saturday night. I am going to be deaf.
I am going to see Margot & The Nuclear So & So's next week and then am going to see Pete Yorn later in the week.
I almost bought tickets to see Sufjan Stevens with Emy Lou Harris and Neko Case, but I couldn't justify the $100.
I was going to see Ike Reilly last weekend, but I got ice stormed-in.

im pissed im going to miss jon brion at the steppenwolf theater

That would be one hell of a show. They should throw Ryan Adams on that ticket. Margot should be nice. How did they get the name Nuclear So and So's? I know the Margot part. I don't know if I can spend $60 on a three day event, namely cause I don't think anybody'd go with me.
TV on the Radio is coming to Indy next week. Think I might make the drive, it's only an hour.

In an interview Andy Fry stated it was because he liked the way GWB said "Nuclear", but it was probably a different reason.....
P.S. This show was really good. Both opening acts (Canada & Page France) were stellar. When Margot finished they went off stage without an encore and they turned the house lights up. About 75-80% of the people left, but I had a feeling they were coming back. They did come back and played a stripped down set with just acoustic guitar, keyboard/accordian and electric guitar. They played about six songs including three brand new ones, which was pretty cool.

TVOTR was awesome. Great time. The Vogue was cool as hell, I thought the venue was going to be in downtown Indy, but actually it was only a couple blocks down from Butler University I think. Real nonchalant looking place, like an old movie theatre with a big ass marque out front. Smallish place to.
As a follow up, the Pete Yorn show was pretty good. I was surprised to see that it was completely sold out. i didn't realize that he was that popular. I had seen him 3 or 4 other times and didn't have any trouble being right next to the stage.
The cool part to me was that the band Minibar was the opening act. I didn't realize that they were on tour with Pete. It was also cool that they played their song "So Long Soho", which was on their debut album.
After Minibar, there was a middle act called Moses Mayfield and they were totally awful. It boggled my mind that they would somehow trump Minibar and I was working myself into a frenzy that Pete had somehow lost his mind by not only signing these guys to play with him, but to play after Minibar. Then later when Pete came on stage, Minibar accompanied him as his band along with Joe Kennedy (his usual guitarist). If you are interested and I guess even if you are not, here was the setlist.
* Life on a Chain
* For Us
* Closet
* Long Way Down
* The Man
* Splendid Isolation (Warren Zevon)
* Undercover
* Ice Age
* Strange Condition
* Burrito
* Dead Flowers (The Rolling Stones)
* Murray
* How Do You Go On
* For Nancy
Encore:
* Policies
* Just Another
* Ever Fallen in Love (The Buzzcocks)
* Crystal Village
* There is a Light That Never Goes Out (The Smiths)
Sweet. Kings of Leon are coming in May. Saw 'em once before and they were sweet as hell. They put on a great show.
caught this on mtv.com/news today... what a lineup!
[quote]
Nas, Public Enemy, the Roots, Mos Def, EPMD, Cypress Hill and Pharoahe Monch are among the artists joining the Rock the Bells lineup, which features previously announced headliners Rage Against the Machine and Wu-Tang Clan. Tickets go on sale Saturday for shows at New York's Randall's Island (July 28); San Bernardino, California's NOS Events Center (August 11); and San Francisco's McCovey's Parking Lot (August 18). Organizers also announced Monday that the tour will be extended with 15 more shows, featuring co-headliners Nas and Wu-Tang Clan
Got shut out of the of Montreal show. Boo! I honestly didn't believe that many people had heard of them, even though they do have that one song from the Sunlandic Twins album in an Outback commericial, even though the commericial just changes the lyrics but keeps the same beat. Anywhoos, hopefully I'll be able to check out Yo la Tengo in a few weeks. I doubt I'm gonna cough up $60 to see Sufjan next week.
Just saw Breaking Benjamin come to Toledo this past Saturday. WOW...what an amazing live act. 3 local bands started off, with BB opening band Leo kicking off the real show. Just an amazing concert in a club/bar setting!

I finally made it to a show.... woo hooo.
The Tossers - Murder by Death - The Reverend Horton Heat
3.28.07 Otto's. DeKalb, IL
The Tossers were intersting. The singer was wasted. He kept reverting to bad Tony Montana imitations between songs and once graced the front rows with a close up of a snot rocket. His voice was rougher than what you hear of the records. I've never seen them live before to compare what it usually sounds like on stage. Besides, the long breaks between songs, the bad imitations and the short set, it was still pretty good. The music was solid and had people dancing. The crowd tried to call them back for an encore. Rumor was that they were supposed to go on second and play a longer set, but they got bumped to the front because of his drunkeness. I would love to see them as a headliner sometime.
Murder by Death was murder by suckiness. I did not like these guys one bit. I've never heard these guys, but I've seen their name attatched to a few things. So, I was hoping to be happily suprised. I wasn't. They were brutal. The one redeeming quality was that their singer looked like a muppet. He had floppy hair and his head tilted back every time he opened his mouth to sing (watch the Muppets again and note how they talk). Anyway, two songs in and we went to the basement bar to watch the crazy guy hosting karoke. Much more entertaining.
The Reverend Horton Heat were incredible. I've been wanting to see them since I first heard them about 12 years ago. They definately lived up to expectations. They're a solid live act. Great music, tight, high energy and lots of dancing. The Reverend's guitar playing is just fantastic. I'm amazed that he can sing and play some of the more difficult stuff at the same time. The new drummer looks like Bruce Jenner. They took some requests and played a few older tunes. They did great covers of "Get Rythym" and "Folsom Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash, as well as "Time is Tight" by Booker T. & the MG's.
murder by death? i gladly would have taken it.
You should have joined us downstairs. Have you ever seen that crazy karoke guy before?

haha i have not. i was reading about him on the "upcoming shows" list tho while i was waiting for the doors to open.
actually, i managed to snag a balcony seat with a perfect view of the stage, so you better believe i was holding onto that tight

Hell yeah. Nice work. I couldn't see too much guitar action from my vantage point.

Thanks for reminding me. Not many shows that I want to see make it to the Cincy area like Chitown. I just bought tickets to see Yo La Tengo. The Hold Steady is playing on May 14, and then Animal Collective is playing the next day. Sweetness.

Not to rub it in, but I was looking through a local entertainment magazine last night and was stunned by the amount of good shows coming in the next two months. If I get a chance later, I'll post some of them. Maybe a road trip is in order.
Unfortunately for me. I'll probably hit zero of them. When I was younger, I didn't have the money to go to many shows. Now, I have responsibilities and bills. *Sigh* Oh well.

Cincinnati usually gets the shaft in Ohio. Usually bands will skip Cincy for Columbus or Cleveland. Hell, even the best venue in town is across the Ohio River in No. Kentucky. But the good thing about Cincinnati, is that it's only an 1 hr - an hour and a half from Louisville, Lexington, Columbus, and Indianapolis. Another good thing about not many bands coming to Cincy, is that when they do, for me, it's a big deal. I imagine if I lived in a hipper town, where bands flock to, missing a show wouldn't be that big a deal, because another band's in town next week, or tomorrow. Basically, I don't take it for granted.
Sweet ass. Just bought tix to see Sufjan. He's playing the last day of a three day festival here in Cincy, and originally you could only buy a pass for the entire three days, but now you can buy individual day ticks.
Hey Ziggy, why the name change?
This is your 2nd one, no?

why not? just say the name real fast, and Ziggy was unavailable.
Just saw Sufjan. Kinda disappointed. It was 2 hrs., but it seemed kinda short. He only did one song for an encore, and it was "to be alone with you." I thought he might play "Decatur" or "Chicago" or at least a couple more songs. It was at a real small venue, an actual music hall, about 300 maybe. He was funny though, telling stories about the songs he was going to play, and made you look at the song a whole nother way. But the whole orchestra thing really bugged me a bit. I like him a whole lot more when he's playing the banjo. The orchestra set really gets to someone when they have to stand up, when everyone else is sitting, and you have 3 freakin' spider bites on your leg (not joking around) and you have to shift legs to keep some freaking blood moving so your legs don't tense up. But My Brightest Diamond, ahhh, I think I'm in love. She's a Goddess, an angel.
Yo La Tengo kicked some serious ass. Great show. Ira is crazy. He was just jamming on his guitar and putting forth a sh!t ton of energy. Georgia seemed a bit shy to sing, but she has such a tender voice. Haven't heard too much of them, just recently got into their music, but I love it. Great time.

Just picked up I Can Hear.. nice album. Thanks for the recommend. I enjoy I'm Not Afraid. Though that was the first album of Yo La's I heard. Really, really digging the new Feist. Got turned on to the new Bloc Party. Pretty alright.
Saw Animal Collective last night. Pretty decent show and only $10. Power went out 3 songs into the set, which was kinda a relief, because it was so hot and stuffy in there. But overall, I think they put on a pretty good show. They're pretty different, it's not for everybody. I was actually suprised at how much pre-recorded material they had. Not seeing them live before, I didn't know what types of instruments they used. I had a good time, no encores though. Which is a first for me. But the crowd was really into it, esp. when "We Tigers" came on. That was a blast.
