Can someone help me understand the author's point here in regards to the chart?

Yes, the dollar collapse is imminent.

IMO, and others that I have spoken to, the worth of the American $ has been related to it being the only currency used to purchase oil. Now with many countries decreasing their dollar reserves and replacing them with Euro's the dollar is in a state of free fall that can be slowed but more than likely it won't be stopped. The dollar will be worth less and less. You are witnessing the end of the great American empire.

All of this is my opinion, but how else would we allow ourselves to be a part of a one-world currency.
It's incredible for me to think that in my lifetime this country could fall so hard and fast. As the Bible says, "our sins are finding us out". If the dollar does collapse or take a freefall, our way of life is going to be different.

Bush was a catalyst for making it happen IMHO.
Has anyone else seen Google's financial charts? Very easy to navigate through.
The first step would be the Amero, the common currency between the US, Canada, and Mexico. Eventually the Amero zone will grow to include much if not all of North and South America bringing increased free trade and free flow of workers. Cities vying for the FTAA secretariat are Atlanta; Panama City; Port of Spain, Trinidad; Puebla, Mexico; but most likely Miami will be chosen.

This complete opening of the hemisphere is one of the reasons why the current illegal immigration debate has become a joke and in Washington, both Dems and Republicans, liberals and neocons, refuse to listen to the concerns of most American citizens. If or when this new economic order is established it will not help recover the deep deficit we are in nor improve our economy on a global scale. Sadly no politician in the western hemisphere is more opposed to this path more than Hugo Chavez. BTW no way am I saying that Chavez is a saint either!

Yep. I just find it odd that two of the people who support one of the key instruments to the downfall of US economic superiority (i.e. the lack of a rigorous scientifically educated workforce) are bemoaning this the most.
the dollar isn't going anywhere at least not for the immediate future (20-30 years.)
I'm an international business major.
