Yeah, I have always had the impression that neither party wants to really do anything about this. That is why I have wondered if a 3rd party candidate who runs primarily on this topic could win. 75% of the American people want this problem solved. Congress and the presidents seem determined for it not to be solved. Even if we did finally secure our borders (which would be a good thing) they would probably boost legal immigration through the roof.
I think I see what is coming down the line. Saying anything about controlling Mexican immigration will be perceived as racist and be met with the same ferocity as saying anything negative about a black person or blacks in general.
Nobody is willing to admit what the basic problem is. We destroy 1.3 million of our own people every year, and the time has long passed for there to be replacements. Societies must have youth to function. Neither the dims or republicans in congress want wages to escalate to the levels they would without these people entering the work force. These folks in the congress are probably convinced they are doing the right thing.
