My predictions in bold

F the BCS.
Its the biggest scam ever.
atleast they finaly got a #1 vs #2 matchup.

I'm not so sure about that.
I still think Michigan is the #2 team in the country.
Cajunman02 Wrote:I still think Michigan is the #2 team in the country.
I do, too, but Florida did play the toughest schedule in the country and came out of it with one loss, like Michigan. How can you look Florida in the eye and tell them they don't deserve a shot at Ohio State while Michigan gets a second chance? I hate the Gators with all my soul and I hate to see them playing for a title, but they deserve the shot (even though I think OSU wins big).

It's tough to say, and while I personal prefer Michigan to Florida, the Gators -- as SEC Champs -- deserve a shot at the title.
Just imagine the uproar if Michigan matched up with tOSU and won, while Florida handled Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl.
At least this way, if Florida beats tOSU, they can say they did something Michigan couldn't accomplish.

SEC Champs with one loss is better in my mind that Ohio State with none. . . .
Florida is going to get absolutely demolished against OSU.

Let me get this straight, you're saying that a 12-1 SEC team is better than a 12-0 Ohio State team?

Ohio State is going to get absolutely demolished by Miami.

I knew somebody would bring that up...
I just think Troy Smith is one of a kind, most QBs as fast as he is arent as accurate and most QBs as accurate as he is dont have his speed. And he has two of the top receivers in the country to throw at as well. I cant see the Florida defense stopping them.

I thought Willis McGahee was the second coming of Walter Payton. How'd that work out?
FWIW I was one of the few who thought Ohio State actually had a chance in that game.

I'm, "apparently", one of the few that thinks Florida has a chance against Ohio State.

Actually Florida, according to the Massey Rating System, comes in at 13th in overall tough schedule. Michigan comes in at #15 but it should be also noted that the Wolverines played Notre Dame and beat Vanderbilt by 20(The Gators only beat the Commodores by 6 points..one of 4 narrow escapes this year for them). We'll see if the Gators can truly match up to the Buckeyes. :D I fully expect Ohio State to come out and play a typical Big 10 physical football against Florida, a group that traditionally does not fare well against really physical football teams(think Nebraska in 1995 and Alabama last year). Somebody brought up the 2002 BCS Game where Ohio State upset Miami. It should also be noted that the Buckeyes got physical with the Hurricanes over the course of that game and Miami didn't know how to deal with it. Not really the same scenario as Florida has always been known as the finesse team of the SEC.

My team played the Buckeyes this year and let me tell you..Troy Smith is the real deal. The guy is absolutely dangerous as a dual threat QB..a shade under Vince Young though. Ohio State has two good RBs in Pittman and Wells as well as 3 really fine receivers in Ginn, Gonzalez, and Hall. To put it kindly,Florida's gonna have their work cut out for them.
RC Horn Wrote:...but it should be also noted that the Wolverines played Notre Dame and beat Vanderbilt by 20(The Gators only beat the Commodores by 6 points..one of 4 narrow escapes this year for them).
....and almost lost to Ball State, if that's your criteria.

I said #1 vs. #2. not BEST two teams. Florida and Ohio State are the #1 and #2 ranked teams all three polls: AP, Coaches, BCS
Laettners Legacy Wrote:I said #1 vs. #2. not BEST two teams. Florida and Ohio State are the #1 and #2 ranked teams all three polls: AP, Coaches, BCS
Um, I am thinking the #1 and #2 teams are the two best teams, chosen by the people that are actually in the business of doing so.
Either that or you have a bunch of damn armchair QB's making the decision.
Week after week, Spurrier had Michigan ranked ahead of Florida. And then, over the weekend, something changed. What could it be? Here is his reasoning for putting Florida over Michigan.
Quote:Heck, I'm a Gator. I went there. So I had a lot of reason to vote for them right there. It just appeared they're 12-1, the other team is 11-1, I guess that's about it.
Spurrier used his bias when selecting his #2 team. He didn't look at who was the better team, he simply put Florida there because he graduated from there. It's like when he votes Duke #25 every year in the preseason.
Also, its all the more reason why a conference championship game makes the field unlevel. In some years, a conference championship game can hurt a team. Here it helped them and hurt someone else. It should be either all conferences have a championship game or none have a championship game.
Let start off by saying that I am NOT in favor of a rematch. However, I don't think Florida should have leapfrogged Michigan like they did.
I'll ask you this one question.
If USC had beaten UCLA on Saturday, would Florida have still leapfrogged Michigan in the final polls?
Cajunman02 Wrote:So as you can clearly see, the two schools have very similar strengths of schedules. Take out Florida's cupcake game against I-AA Western Carolina, and they are 11-1 also. Identical records with identical SOS.
Take out Michigan's cupcake games and they be about 3-1. ......and one of those cupcakes they came damn near to losing.

I don't play the "what if", but my guess would be yes.

That is because you are either crazy or a liar. There is one reason that Florida leapfrogged Michigan. The writers didn't want to see a rematch of two teams from the same conference, with the thinking it would make a mockery of the BCS, but by not doing that they have essentially accomplished the same thing.
Don't be such a homer on the SEC. It wasn't that tough this year. If they had played anybody outside of their conference, you might have a measuring stick, but the best OOC wins were Tennessee over Cal and Georgia over GT.

Being in the toughest conference in the nation kinda kills the "OOC" argument. They don't have to schedule tough OOC teams. Why would they?
..and just for the record Blah, I hate Florida. I hate'em with every breath I take.
Michigan vs. ranked teams:
September 16 at No. 2 Notre Dame W 47-21
November 18 at No. 1 Ohio State L 42-39
...that's it.
Florida vs. ranked teams:
September 16 at No. 13 Tennessee W 21-20
October 7 No. 9 LSU W 23-10
October 14 at No. 11 Auburn L 27-17
December 2 No. 8 Arkansas W 38-28
Florida is 12-1. Michigan is 11-1. Florida is in a tougher conference, period. The only reason, and I mean THE ONLY reason, Michigan was #2 is because they beat Notre Dame, and then won out over a bunch of cupcakes.

Yes, you put Ohio State in the SEC and then they loose more than one game. SEC is a different level of competition.
Michagan the last three weeks. 0-1
Ohio State the last three weeks: 1-0
Florida the last three weeks 3-0, winning the conference championship.
why shouldnt FL go up? stop all this nonsense and give us a playoff

give us a playoff and let the TEAMS decide on the field of play who is the best team in the land. forget this voting thing. there is no national championship in Div 1A football and that is bullsh!t.

They weren't #7 when Michigan beat them and they also had a cupcake schedule.
Anytime you schedule a I-AA team, you played a cupcake schedule. I don't care what you say.
If Florida doesn't have to schedule tough OOC games, why should Michigan have to? Michigan plays in a VERY tough conference. Try 3 teams in the top 7 of the BCS. The SEC has
I've proven that both schools played nearly identical schedules when you look at SOS. The reason why Florida got the nod was because the pollsters didn't want a rematch.
Michigan's lone loss this year was by 3 at Ohio State, the consensus #1 team in the country. Florida's lone loss was at Auburn by 10.
If USC had won on Satuday, the final coaches and Harris polls would have looked like this:
1. Ohio State
2. USC
3. Michigan
4. Florida

Florida has a MUCH tougher in conference schedule. Michigan did play a few good teams, but Florida plays a good team almost every week. Once again, SEC is in a different league in football.
Well, hell, If Georgia would have gone undefeated this year, they would probably be number 1. ...but they didn't, and USC didn't win.

I don't know how these computer rankings come up with what they come up with, but here's what I do know...
Florida's opponent winning pct. was better than Michigan's (.610 to .579). Florida played more bowl teams than Michigan (10-7). Florida played more currently ranked teams than Michigan (4-3). And people that are critical of Florida playing Western Carolina overlook that Florida had to play Arkansas in a championship game, which more than makes up for Western Carolina.
Florida's schedule was CLEARLY tougher.
I may be wrong but I thought there was a rule where only wins against D I A teams counted for the BCS formula, which would make Florida 11-1 the same record as Michigan.
Terpy Wrote:I may be wrong but I thought there was a rule where only wins against D I A teams counted for the BCS formula, which would make Florida 11-1 the same record as Michigan.
Ok then. UF beat more ranked teams, at the time of the game, than UM.
Next?
Don't bitch at me, I didn't make the rules. UM had their shot and lost. It's unfair that UF doesn't get the same chance.
Hopefully the big wigs up North will NOW demand a playoff system. I don't remember ANY of you Northerners, not you Terp, but others, bitching when LSU got screwed.
How did LSU get screwed? They won a split championship.
Terpy Wrote:How did LSU get screwed? They won a split championship.
Figures you'd take that stance.........
Ok, if UF wins and UM wins, shares the NC, but UF gets the Glass Ball, you gonna be happy?
UF aint gonna win so it dont matter. ;-)
Terpy Wrote:UF aint gonna win so it dont matter. ;-)
Why not answer the question?
Im not a Michigan fan so I dont give a flip frankly. What does the glass ball mean? Nothing. The NCAA does not name champions in D I A football. The glass ball only signifies that you won the Tostitos Bowl or whatever the hell it is called this year.
If there is a split when SI does their little give away thing they will special Championship editions for both teams. 20 years from now people wont remember which team played in which game, just that there was a split National title.
Heck, if Boise State wins their game they probably deserve a share. They wont get it, but IMO they would deserve it.
I was wrong. It wasn't LSU. It was Auburn. The year Oklahoma and USC played for the NC.
This is what I was talking about. Sorry for the confusion.
Boise State has no chance vs Oklahoma.
