What a stupid move
Alou will get injured more than floyd. Sure, he's an excellent hitter, but he's a god awful fielder, who will come up with multiple injuries this season.
When they need pitching, they make their first signing hitting? It's time for them to sign zito and suppan.
I doubt they are going to try to count on him for a full time role at 40. Dont know how much money is involved but I seriously doubt he is going to be their everyday right fielder.

umm, mlb.com is reporting that he'll be their everyday left fielder and bat sixth.

i agree about gonzalez, but not stanton. he was awesome for us last year. I wouldn't want the giants to give him 2 years, but it's a good idea for the reds.
i'll tell you what's awesome, the giants get a sandwich pick for losing stanton and a first round and sandwich pick for alou. i'll take a first rounder and 2 sandwich picks for alou and stanton.

The Mets are close to signing Moises Alou, a great addition for this team. He could be the Frank Thomas of 2007, batting in the middle of what should be an incredibly powerful lineup, and from this Mets point of view, he requires only a one-year obligation, rather than a long-term deal. Relatively low risk, potentially high reward; can't get much better than that. He flat-out kills left-handed pitching, which probably means that he'll hit between Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado and force opposing managers to make difficult choices with their relievers late in games.
So the first eight spots in the Mets' lineup could look like this:
1. SS Jose Reyes
2. C Paul Lo Duca
3. CF Beltran
4. LF Alou
5. 1B Delgado
6. 3B David Wright
7. RF Shawn Green
8. 2B Jose Valentin
this doesn't prove anything. you'll be lucky if he plays 110 games. not only that, but he'll cost you plenty of runs in the OF.
