First off that commercial for it is scary... the PS3 turns your babies into Zombies?
And to top it off... while I was in Wal Mart tonight I saw that the line to by the PS3 was already 10 people long.... Wally World even had chairs out for them.... OK folks.... the PS3 doesn't release for 2 whole days!!! And its $600!!!!
On our local news tonite, most of those waiting in line at Best Buy were buying the system so they can turn around and sell it on E-Bay for potentially $1000+. Keep an eye out on E-Bay in the coming weeks....
I might show up a little early to get a Wii... but not two whole days.
Yeah... the ebay ps3 thing is gonna be more insane than it was for PS2 and XBX 360.

Happened with the XBox 360.

Funny thing is, the store probably won't even get that many on the release date. There is just no more patience in the world.
EBay unveils fraud policy, limits for PlayStation sales
Quote: The online marketplace imposed restrictions on the PS3.
Only established eBay Inc. vendors those who have racked up comments from at least 50 customers and have positive ratings of at least 98 out of 100 points can list PS3s before Friday. Each vendor can list only one PS3 per eBay account.
The listing must include a photo of the pre-order receipt, and the seller must guarantee shipment within 30 days.
Potential buyers have bid up the price of PS3s to $2,300.
Wow, this'll probably actually drive prices up for those who can sell one.
Yeah, didn't someone sell an XBox 360 cardboard box on ebay for $800 when it came out?
$600 ....
Sony must be eating a $4000+ loss on each one. A Blu-Ray drive alone cost a grand. Much less the 10-core cell processor, which is suffering from very low yield rates. Furthermore, despite the fact that it runs Linux, Sony is trying their hardest to lock it down and prevent homebrew, etc. As usual with all things Sony, it only plays nice with other Sony equipment (memory cards, etc).
I'm sure if it flops... and I think it will, Sony will blame Linux before they blame themselves.
Microsoft is an evil company led by an evil bastard.... but they got the XBox 360 right (except for the somewhat pudgy controllers).
The only thing kind of neat about the PS3 is it has the ability to run Folding@Home on the CPU and the GPU... and it runs Linux. That being said, for $600 you could create a fairly badass Linux media center that isn't locked down like the PS3.

I bought the original PlayStation a few weeks after it came out ($299 at the time, 12 months later $99). It lasted all of 6 months before the "motor" burned up on the thing. I contacted Sony, and they gave a laundry list of excuses. I don't plan to buy another Sony game console.
The motor died on my original Playstation as well after like a year and a few months. I got a PSOne when they were dirt cheap just so I could keep playing NCAA Football '99.
I'm starting to get desperate in terms of playing a current NCAA Football game. There's no way I'm dumping half a grand just so I can play 2 or 3 games (GTA and NCAA FB and NCAA BB). The PSP is very tempting for me, but I am skeptical of the longevity of it right now. It's a borderline flop thus far. And while I'm sure "Brain Age" is a cute little game, you can't play NCAA FB or GTA or NCAA BB on the DS, and I doubt you ever will be able to.
Oh and guitar hero. I realllllllllllllllly love guitar hero, but can't play that on the PSP. :(
Yeaaaaaa .. a quick look on Newegg
PS2 + GTA: SA + NCAA FB '07 + Guitar Hero II + Memory Card
= <$300
PS3
= >$600
I'll stick with my Wii.
And hell you get a Wii and XBX360 for the same as a PS3.

I still have my original Playstation that I paid $299.99 for when it came out. Still runs fine. I like playing the Namco Museum games on it.....especially Galaga.
Techfan4 for the loss...
He's outside of a Target right now living on a prayer for PS3 to resell.

I am wondering if there is anybody out there that is actually going to keep the PS3 that they buy. I'm not sure how you could justify it.

The people buying it on ebay will pay $2500 for one, but won't sit outside a walmart to get one for $600. Brilliant!
You would think that Sony would get really pissed that people are buying and reselling new unopened PS3's for over double the suggested retail price. Sony probably loses more money per unit than what they can actually make.
They interviewed a guy here in Richmond who reminded me of Beavis who said he was gonna get it and play it for like.........15 hours!!!!

Seriously, they should just do a pre-sale where they sell them for like $1500 before they are released or something. Of course I can think of plenty of reasons why that is bad marketing. But with a product that is clearly going to sell for $2500, I'm sure Sony wants to get in on that action.
For you older guys like me, well, in the 30's and above, did this crap start with Cabbage Patch Dolls? That's the first thing like this I remember. I remember my sister wanting one. She was dissapointed that year. No way in hell were my parents going to do something as idiotic as this.
...oh, and the PS2 will do just fine for now.
BTW, look for round 2 Sunday night. The Wii is coming out.

Would any of you wait in line for 1 - 2 days spend $600 to later sell it for $3,000. I would consdier it . . . .
I considered it...and it will be up on eBay shortly. :)
Say what you want...but I come out on top. ;-)

I went and got an old, used X-Box for $99 for the sole purpose of playing NCAA 2007.
If you have one of these things to sell two weeks before Christmas it will get you $5000 easy.
