[quote]Why Don't Elite Americans Serve?

When the son of John McCain announced he was joining the Marines a few months ago, it made headlines across the country
I agree, but I do wonder what liberalism has contributed to this. If I can remember correctly, Princeton had one of the highest rates of people joining the military during WWII. It was an honor to serve. Since Vietnam, the military has been ostracized. While it is true that the military is getting some of its image back after being degraded by the likes of Fonda, Kerry, Haden, etc., we are now in a new era. If this generation had gone through something like the Great Depression, I feel like we could have recovered a little more quickly. However, this is a "gimme" generation.

So, in essence, I think there are two main factors to this. One, the ostracization by the far left, and the degrading morals and values that have plagued todays generation X. ......and as we can all see, the far left is still doing its part by trying to persuade people that there really is no threat. After Dec, 7th 1941, everyone could see the threat. After 9/11/01, I'm sure they could as well, but it seems the country isn't as committed to addressing this threat as they were in the past. ....and I have no earthly idea why.
damn kids.

I agree, and I think that was alluded to in the article. The arrogant ones tend to be liberals.

Look at Harvard, they were trying to get ROTC thrown off their campus. How intolerant and elitist can you be?
