AP confirms....Rumsfeld stepping down
I just saw that too. It's on all the networks.
It's a brilliant move on the Republican side. We now have our fall guy.

Brilliant move would of been 6 months to a year ago when it actually could of had a positive effect on the election.

You may not like the guy but he will be remembered for a lot of positives things he did for the military in terms of modernization.
He has helped produce the military that will fight wars in the 21st century. He had to drag a lot of Generals kicking and screaming out of their Cold War mindset.
Bob Gates to be nominated to replace Rumsfeld

Not so fast...... If he sacked Rumsfeld last year it would of been admitting mistakes in Iraq. It would of had a domino effect. I trust Rove knew what he was doing keeping Rumsfeld around til after the elections.

Polls were pretty clear on Iraq. Abraham Lincoln fired Generals like Donald Trump so it can help you politically to make changes during a time of war.
Rumsfeld should of been gone sooner it would of helped the Republicans to fend off the stay the course diatribe that Democrats used so well during the election.

What mistakes, oh Quarterback of the armchair? Allowing a bunch of anti-war reporters to follow BCT's into combat and report back to the American populace what they "feel" are war crimes....you know, like killing the enemy?
Reb,

Tone down the Rhetoric..... The whole country can see the war was clusterfcked from the begining. Do you remember the you go to war with the Army you have and not the one you want line. Well you better *** **** go prepared when you choose the time and place.

Armored humvees
Post construction plans on the back of a cocktail napkin
not enough troops to win the peace

these are the things I feel we botched in Iraq.

...and your experience with the military is what? And your personal experience in Iraq is what?

Oh, thats right, you get your information from the Noos Outlets. Oh no, they don't have an agenda.

lol. also ironic they're using CNN for thier wire feeds (the evil liberal media)
Any site associated with Brent Bozell has a HUGE bias, and CNSnews.com is.
One of my best friends....... (he was in my wedding) went to Afghanistan for a year. I remeber talking to you about this in 2004. He was part of a force tracking OBL. We had a thread about it. He would never come str8 out and openly complain about Bush, because he voted for him, but I know he doesn't like the direction Cheney and Rumsfeld has taken the military. he's a great guy and I don't want to speak for him but in our conversations he is not gung ho about Iraq and he is a gung ho type of guy.

I had a kid who played tail back for me who just returned from Iraq and he says it's a lost cause.

So, are you saying those quotes by the Iraqi official are lies?

Yeah, but we're supposed to take the bull**** from NYT, et al, and then ask for seconds. 01-wingedeagle

Well that does it. You got one guy that's against it so it must be true. I'm against the war now.

Just trying to be civil and answer your questions. Don't ask me if you don't want to know.

Ok, I'll play. Where do you get your information about Iraq?

BTW, all HMMWV's HAVE been up-armored.
I just told you above. I've had three former students serve in Iraq honorably.

Damn, has the President called you as an advisor yet? 03-melodramatic
BTW, see what you guys are going to miss?

No but maybe he should of. I promise you he wouldn't of had a 29% approval rating this summer.
ah but what about that coach guy that knows kung fu.
Talk now is that Bolton may be next. I think that would be a bad move. The guy has done well at the UN. He'd have been confirmed had Chafee not put a hold on his vote.
that's right. He has never been confirmed. He will be out. My aunt has a good friend who works for Bolton. Not that any of you should care about that, but Aunt Lou will be upset.

Send Aunt Lou my condolences.
Will do Bud.

Funny thing about war, things don't always go according to plan. Good thing they weren't broadcasting D-day or we would have had to pull the troops off Omaha beach when casualties reached a certain point instead of finishing the job.

Nope, but if you're going to cite media bias it might be better to find a source that isn't blatantly biased. I'm sure, like here, you're going to find people on both sides of the issues in Iraq.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, get your news from multiple sources.

We'd have never made it to Omaha. Operation Overlord would have been leaked and been out in the papers in May and when asked about it they'd scream freedom of the press.

How about from Iraqi's themselves? You seem to think I've been sitting on my ass here in Georgia for the past 5 years.

Too true. We'd have brought them home after the Kasserine Pass fiasco.

Yep, right after they ran the news reel of a german sniper killing one of our soldiers. Cause you know, that's news.

Of course, I mean after all it was our foreign policy that forced them to attack Pearl Harbor. Had we given them what they wanted they would never had attacked.
RebelKev Wrote:How about from Iraqi's themselves? You seem to think I've been sitting on my ass here in Georgia for the past 5 years.

You seem to think that you're the only person I know who has been to Iraq. And you also seem to think that one Kurdish leader is representative of all of Iraq. I know that there are opinions on many different sides in Iraq.

I know. We were such odious bastards. How dare us for cutting off the oil to their war machine. All they wanted to do was control the Pacific and Southwest Asia. Damn we can be cruel.

I guess we'll never learn that the only time to fight someone is when they show up on our soil.
