Market is going off earnings reports and the fact they were hoping on split control. Gridlock = great things for the market. Dems win both the House and Senate you will some retreat.
If you follow the market you know that the next four months are usually where you make your money. Also historically the 3rd-4th year of a 2nd term President is good for the market because the party in control does not make any dramatic proposals with a lame duck POTUS.

I've read that the Trade Sports does a good job of predicting. I haven't validated that personally, but I can see some merit in it.

Torch, the more and more technology advances, and I know it seems like it would be the opposite, but I feel that polls are going to become increasingly more inaccurate. I have seen DUmmies on DU skew polls left and right, of course this also happens with the Freepers. As for phone polls, more and more people are going to cellular technology.
I rely on one poll, the election.

If you have a stock that has increased in value, and the party winning control of Congress has promised to raise capital gains taxes from 15% to 39.6%, think you might want to sell while the stocl is still high and the taxes low? And make a guess what happens to the market when there are a lot of sellers and not many buyers?
Guess what happens to new projects, new branches, new businesses, when the expected return is slashed by higher taxes? Some of them no longer are feasible, and never get done. Not sure why that makes you happy.
But for you, it is a great opportunity. Take out that second mortgage and invest in these stocks when everybody sells in the next few months. Join the capitalistic society, at least for a little while. Then when you sell in a couple of years, you can pay the higher taxes and pat yourself on the back.
It will be bad for the economy and America if the Dems win both houses. It will be even worse if they keep their promises (threats?).
A lot of people are voting against Bush. I voted against Pelosi and Reid.

for those of us who don't need the government to wipe our arse from cradle to grave we merely look at a Democrat controlled Congress as one more way to make some money. There will be plenty of opportunities to move money around to investment vehicles that produce under Democrat rule and load up on some that don't but will be bargains in a few months.
For those of you holding your breath on a minimum wage increase.... You are screwed if that is something that you will celebrate as a victory.

The Dems will be best served by remembering that they didn't win the election, the Republicans lost it. If the Dems go nuts over the next two years, it'll be a bloodbath in '08.

They should also be cognizant of the fact that they just elected a lot of conservative blue dog Democrats. In Indiana you had three new Congressman who all pledged to protect gun rights and no new taxes. We saw former Republicans running as Democrats in both Florida and Virginia.
Yesterday was not a glowing endorsement for liberal government in fact it merely reaffirmed that the United States is moderate to slightly conservative. Problem is we have a bunch of liberal politicians lined up to take control like Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Charlie Rangel in the House and Harry Reid, Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton in the Senate.
If they try and push through a liberal agenda they will have a short stay. The House has only changed hands twice in the last 56 years. If the Democrats get crazy it could flip flop back in 2 short years.
