State your offseason goals for your team...try to keep it realistic.
Braves
- Starting rotation. Smoltz, Hudson, James and Hampton are pretty much locked in, but I don't feel comfortable giving Davies a spot considering how bad he was last year. Bring someone in to compete with him or bring in a solid middle-rotation guy and use Davies as an insurance policy.
- Left field. We need an everyday left fielder, preferably one who can leadoff. I'm thinking Juan Pierre is who we might go after.
- Setup man. We've got Bob Wickman locked up as the closer in '07, but it'd be nice to get an established power arm to get him the ball. I don't really trust Yates or Paronto in a big role, and McBride's just a lefty specialist.
- Trade Marcus Giles. We've got Willy Aybar and Martin Prado who are capable of starting at second base, so it's time to trade Giles and fill one of these aforementioned holes.
O's
I like our young starting pitching, but we need to get some power in our lineup, Carlos Lee is probably the best guy available, but whoever lands him is going to end up paying too much just because there isnt a lot of power hitters available. Either way Id like to see us add a couple of middle of the lineup bats. We also need some help in the bullpen.
It might all go up in smoke but I really am optimistic about our starting pitching next season.
We will probably do nothing and be stuck iwth the same pathetic team next year and waste some good young pitchers.
giants:
do nothing. we have a good starting rotation with cain, lowry, a healthy morris, sanchez and hennessey. Lincecum is not far away, and will be up either at the end of the year or beginning of next season.
I know for a fact that we aren't going to sign a big free agent, so i say we let all of our free agents go and resign bonds. I figure we spend the money on him this season and let him break the record as a Giant, which is only fitting. Take the rest of the money and save it to invest in the Caribbean and far east.
You dont want to try to add a few bats? Your offense was probably more anemic than ours was last season.

oh, i do. i would love to get soriano, and we certainly have the soriano. we have over 50 million to spend, but sabean said he wasn't going to have another player whose salary takes up a large percentage of the payroll. but i wouldn't mind us sucking this year, but trying to stay competitive with cain and lowry. who knows, maybe sanchez will come through. you never know how good these young pitchers can be.
i'd like to see us try to sign belliard, guillen and aramis ramirez.
Reds:
Oh man...where to begin. Always starting out RED Hot, then fading away to crush my hopes.
Anyway, I think that putting Krivsky in at GM was a wonderful move. We'll see what he does now that he has a full year to play with.
Pitching, pitching, pitching. Could use another front line starter. Harang is coming into his own, and Arroyo is solid. I'm not sold on Milton (better days are way behind him), Lohse or Michalak. Claussen was unimpressive and seems to be injury prone like Paul Wilson. I'd love to see Homer Bailey get a shot but realistically, another year or two down on the farm may be the best for him.
The pen is in need of a closer. Guardado had Tommy John surgery last month and is eligible to become a free agent. He won't get much if he tests the waters. I say give him a performance laden contract (at a low salary) and see if he bites. If not, Schoeneweis can probably handle the load.
Need another big bat in the line-up. I know Dunn strikes out alot, but he just turned 26. Guys start to mature at that age and maybe he will learn some plate discipline (Can only hope). Build around Encarnacion and Phillips. Griffey had a good year and should repeat in an injury free year. Freel is a hard nosed player and Hollandsworth will be back. Still need more pop even with them and Hatteberg.
Would like to see Aurilia stay, but have heard he wants to go back to San Fran. If he leaves, could use another utility guy with a big bat.

wow, 15.3 mil/year. amazing how inflated the market for pitching is. especially left handed pitching.

if anyone gives schmidt double digits/year, they're crazy. ever since he hurt his groin 2 seasons ago, he hasn't been the same. he just isn't worth a big deal.
