Seriously, this does make sense. The US pays alot of money cleaning up munitions sites. Check out the costs for the BRAC, and it doesn't stop there.

Weapons are supposed to hurt your enemies, not yourself.

Well I certainly do see the usefulness of such a project, but I just thought there is a tinge of irony in some of the quotes.

Absolutely. Didn't mean to disagree.
We've been using "green" .223 for years. This is the ammunition in the M-249 SAW and the M-16A2.
