nVidia released beta driver 1.0.9626 for Linux in the last few days.
So what's the big deal?
Well, these drivers allow anybody running Linux to run Compiz (the cool guy desktop effects you might have seen videos of) without the tremendous slowdown of XGL software overhead. nVidia put 3D acceleration support for Compiz straight into the driver.
Here's a little video I cooked up of it in action.
To view this video, you need to watch it at fullscreen at a resolution of 1024x768 or better. It does slow down in areas, because my machine is struggling mightily to record at that huge resolution in real time. It's not the 3D effects slowing things down at all, in fact it's very fast and responsive.
If for any reason the video does not play properly (miscoloration, no video, etc):
1) Shame on you, b/c I know you watched it using Quicktime or Windows Media Player, which both blow.
2) Watch it using this: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
So here ya go: gts-aiglx-promo.mpeg || 62 MB
