Figures Skynyrd and Allman Bros get a lot of nods 03-idea
To that end.... I'd like to argue for a Black Crowes song. It would have to be off Shake Your Money Maker or The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion though. Not sure wich one I'd pick though.... She Talks To Angels, Twice as Hard, Sometimes Salvation ....
No Kings of Leon or Drive By Truckers?? 03-old

I guess they abscence of DBTs pertains to the fact they've never had a big hit. But as a band, they're the best southern rock group in the business today. Plus the fact that they sing about real life and not some idealized version of the south makes them all the more stronger.

So true. Factories, NASA shutting down, Reagan, unemployment, suicide, etc.. powerfull stuff indeed.
Do y'all consider The Band to be southern rock? Or just southernsoul. Maybe they don't quite fit the list, but I was listening to their greatest hits this evening and I thought, "hey wait a minute. Why is The Band not on the list."

I'll tell you what, Cripple Creek, The Shape I'm In, and The Weight might be the best three song start to any greatest hits album. Maybe that'll be the next thread I start.
