From Numerous posts you can probabbly figure out which of these groups are my favorites.
Other ramblings about music in general:
I should love Linkin Park b/c of my tastes in Rap and Metal... but don't
Can't stand all the EMO bands
Can't stand all the formulaic bands out there... I can't tell one from the other.
Can't stand what Rap has turned into in the last 10years. Rap went from having all genre's being equally good, marketable, promoted, selling, and repsected to being only gangsta/thug in a very short time. Say up till the mid-late 90s you had A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, 3rd Bass ect for your "back pack" urban rap...NWA. Ice T, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre for you west coast gangster stuff, you had Eric B and Rakim, Big Daddy Kane et all for you east Coast version of the same ..but notice both were intelligent about hte subject matter .... you had Public Enemy, X Clan et, all for your political rap .... you had DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Kid N Play for your "party rap" Bestie Boys and Cypress Hill doing the rap/rock thing RUN DMC kind of had all of these styles in their music. Now, if you a rapper who is not a "thug" or a "pimp" then your are not marketable or promoteable...and get no love... Don't get me wrong.. I love my weed, rims, bass, ho, guns rap as much as the next guy but when that is all you can do/are and that is all that is coming out..it gets BORING.
Rock is getting almost as bad.
Can't stand the fact that back in the day you knew who a sellout was and they, the sell out band, would almost admit to being that..... but now you can't be sure who is real and who is not. for example... Poison...they were what they were and admitted it!! A hair metal band that made party music... or say Def Leppard...an admitted op metal band...but htey got props for being what they were b/c they didn't try to fake it. ANd in the case of rap.. too many Studio Gangsters out there... robbing the imagery of Too $short, Ice T, NWA and likes to make a name for themselves as "hard." Or if you want to analyze further.... people that switch ..case in point... Dr Dre... on NWA: "Straight Outta Compton" he rap's in "Express Yourself"" I don't smoke weed or cess becsue it give a borther brain damage and brain damge on the mic don't manage bur making a sucker and you equall..." and now he is one of hte biggest "weed smoking" promoters in his music. and for a different Spin.... Cypress Hill came out w/ a pro-weed asthetic..... they had success....and after their debut cd look at how many rappers are saying they do weed where previous to Cypress Hill nearly noone did.
