Hey Blah....

ON cd reviews I think we/forum should do the following for every cd

*Post a link to the cover art for the cd
*possibly a link to like amazon.com so folks can read other reviews or buy
*rate it on a scale of 5 *s
*note if it is buyable worthy
*and depending on public opinion do track reviews vs whole album reviews
*maybe a disclaimer on your tastes/what you listen to -- like I like so and so... vs you like so and so... if you like so and so you will like this cd ...get what I mean?++

Like swoosh is probabbly the biggest hiphop/rap fan around here and likes "new style" rap vs say someone like me who has deep rap background but prefers old school rap to a lot of the new...

We could see the same cd in totally different lights.

Same with say any heavy metal cd... my thoughts could differ from another reviewer....

ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Sounds good...
we should be fair on the ratings too. A 5 should be reserved for a classic, and therefore shouldn't be used often.
4.5- just below a classic, but still, an amazing album
4- great album, with up to 2 poor tracks
3.5- very good album, with decent replay value
and so on...

it's kinda weird that 3 of my favorite albums ever are Illmatic, It Was Written and I Am. The again, Nas is my favorite rapper.

Well here goes my first review:

Jedi Mind Tricks "Servants in Heaven, Kings in Hell"

For those that don't know, this is dark, social conscious rap. It's a two man team. The rapper is a white guy named Vinnie Paz and the producer (who is amazing BTW) is stoupe the enemy of mankind.

Amazon.com- http://www.amazon.com/Servants-Heaven-Ki...F8&s=music

This is my favorite Jedi Mind album ever. It has 4 interludes, an intro and 11 songs. There's one track i can't listen to and another one that's mediocre at best, but the other 9 are bangers, therefore my rating is:
4 Stars

An excellent buy, if you like this kind of rap and amazing beats (live instruments).[/img]
I highly recommend

Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood
Heartless Bastards- All This Time
Kimya Dawson- Remember that I love you
Animal Collective- Feels
Amy Millan- Honey from the Tombs
Emily Haines- Knives don't have your Back
Destroyer- Destroyer's Rubies

All fine, fine purchases
1) Lookin at You- Great west coast feel to the beat. I really like this track, of course if someone didn
How are giving The Game's cd a 4/5*s when you dislike most of each song? Or are you giving the beats more cred to up the score? Kinda like me w/ that new Pharell cd... beats alone a 4*.... as soon as he raps/sings 2*s

2 reasons..

1) exactly what you said, the beats up the score a lot.
2) i wrote that review about a week ago. after listening to it an additional week, i like it a bit more. so i'd say it's a minimum 3.75 and at best a 4.
Just bought:

Asobi Seksu- Citrus. If you don't mind listening to a female sing in Japanesefor half the record, this album will entrance you. Some nice, nice dream pop. Strawberries, Lions and Tigers (possibly one of the best things I've ever heard), Nefi + Girly, and Exotic Animal Paradise are my favorite tracks.

Azure Ray self titled. I love Azure Ray. Orenda Fink and Maria Taylor both form an amazing duo. Airy, earthy. For no one, displaced, safe and sound, and rise arre my favorite tracks.

Metric-Old World Underground, where are you now? Metric is probably one of my favorite art-rock bands out. Emily Haines brings so much passion and intensity, and her voice and lyrics are top notch. Succexy, combat baby, dead disco, love is a place are standout tracks.

Joanna Newsom- Y's. This is a 5 song 50 minute EP. Much different than Milk Eyed Mender, which was about 12 songs each 3-4 minutes long. So this is quite a contrast. She didn't want to be limited to that format, and having 10 minute songs really lets her ideas develop. Haven't made it through the entire album yet, but from what I've heard, this is a stellar album. Joanna's not for everyone though. Her childlike voice will tune some listeners off.

I just picked this up at the local library. I must agree. A very fine album indeed.
