I'm a pretty harsh person on this. I don't believe the geneva convention applies, and I don't think the terrorists have made any moves that warrant a reciprocal extension of mercy. McCain made the statement that he didn't want to give the Attorney General of an opposing force the excuse to torture. Was he referring to the Attorney general of al-Qaeda? Of hamas? Of hezbollah? they have already demonstated they will will torture, amim, and kill, with or without provocation.

This is a new situation, and needs a new approach. it isn't WWII or even Viet Nam.

Following is an opinion column from todays Dallas Morning news:

I promised myself that I was not going to return from a visit to the Guant
Nice article.

I agree that the U.S. should follow the Geneva Convention, where applicable, but also agree that it is not applicable with a group of terrorists who claim no home.

exactly.
I've talked to several relatives and friends that have seen combat in the military and believe me when I say that we don't follow the Geneva Convention either. They also prepare our troops that are in a combat role to deal with torture techniques that are applied by the enemy that are obviously NOT in line with the Geneva Convention.

Do I think that information gathered under duress is credible NO, but would our troops feel better after roughing one of their guys up, absolutly beat on brothers. ALso, loud music, sleep deprivation and holding a dog 3" from their face barking is NOT torture. If the are beating them to a pulp or letting the dog go to work on the guy that is torture, either way what do I care what our guys do. I say let them do their jobs.
As long as they are middle eastern and appear to do somethng suspicious(ie. being middle eastern). I think we should just round them all up beat the crap out of them until they talk! Who gives a **** about the consequences down the road. Who gives a crap if it is un-American and who gives a damn about international laws! We ARE the US and we can do whatever the **** we want! 04-rock 03-patriot
