I didn't think air america would make it. But, they probably lasted longer than I predicted. Too bad Oddball isn't around to tell us how this is no sign of danger.:

Quote:How is Air America doing these days? Not too well. In fact, it looks like Chapter 11, according to various reports. All that, plus, even star Al Franken is getting short-sheeted at payday.

"I don't know if that's true or not," Al Franken told Radar late Wednesday, when asked about the bankruptcy report. "We do know that there have been cash-flow problems. I haven't been paid in a while. Like, there's no cash flowing to me."

It's not the first time Franken has gone without a salary. Air America ran out of money promptly after it launched in 2004, after disgraced former chairman Evan Cohen inflated the amount of money he had raised to fund the network.

The debacle nearly killed the network in its infancy, and led to a legendary incident in which Cohen reportedly sent an executive to Franken's apartment to hand-deliver an envelope purportedly containing all of his back pay. It was empty.
Air America seemed like a good idea to me. Why shouldn't the left start a radio presence? But the couple of times I tuned in, it all sounded like conspiracy theorist mumbo jumbo to me. I'm not surprised it isn't doing well.
The problem with Air America is they were trying to start a whole channel from scratch with an across the country coverage.

The model for talk radio, is generally for an individual (not an entire channel) to gain fame locally and then regionally before going national. Air America's business plan was very poor to say the least, but of course Liberals tend to be anti-business, so we should have expected that.
I think what they have failed to realize (so far) is that they need to be ENTERTAINING. Is Al Gore their programming director? Al Franken used to be a pretty funny guy (SNL days). Tried to listen to him a couple of times on Air America and he was, well, pretty dull. No thanks.
