As a Reds fan I must say this was a dissapointing day, we got another good bullpen arm in Rheal Cormier and I know think we have a very good bullpen, but we didn't acquire a fifth starter or a shortstop.

Alot of hype for nothing. While there were alot of trades the big names stayed on their current teams: Zito, Soriano, Lidge, Oswalt, Tejada. The Mets should have given up Milldge for Zito, They have Gomez and Fernando Martinez in the minors and Zito is very good young pitcher who could have been dominant with Pelfrey in a few years, assuming they could have signed him (which I think they would have).

Peter Angelo is a complete retard for vetoing the Tejada for Oswalt, Ensberg, and Everett trade. He also should have taken the Santana and Aybar offer. What an idiot.

Worst trade of the day by far goes to Krivsky and the Reds. Zach Ward is very projectable as a pitcher with a 95 mph heater with sinking action and a plus slider. Gettin Lohse in return for Ward is inexcusable, Kyle is a joke of a pitcher.

Winners:
Yankees: only because money is never a problem for them. Abreu and Lidle were gotten for almost nothing and they stole Craig Wilson from the Pirates.

Cardinals: pick up Ronnie Belliard for Hector Luna and Jorge Sosa could be a steal.

Reds: although they made the Lohse trade, Krivsky seriously upgraded the pen. Best bullpen in the NL IMO, Guardado, Coffey, Bray, Majewski, Cormier and sleepers in Shackelford and Standridge.

Mets: great job getting Hernandez after Sanchez went down with the shoulder injury. should have gotten Zito

Phillies: rid themselves of around $20 mill in payroll, Henry is a nice player but the money is better

Losers:
Blue Jays: Do they expect to get in the playoffs by standing pat, while the Yankees greatly improved their team??

Pirates: had alot of trading chips, Casey, Wilson, Hernandez etc. and they didn't get any quality prospects and Nady is only a servicable player.

Dodgers: Do they not get it, they are done! Bad move trading Guzman unless they plan to sign Lugo to a long term deal, which I doubt because Lugo wants to play SS

Nationals: they won't resign Soriano, dumb move. Maybe they couldn't get a top prospect for Soriano back, if true then I see what Bowden is doing, he will get 2 first round choices in next years draft.

Thoughts?

No they didn't, the Padres almost did it but wouldn't accept.
yeah right after I posted it I realized it after I saw the update that said it fell through, my mistake
I agree with everything on that list and im ok with the Astros standing pat for the most part. It would have been nice to add a relief pitcher and maybe another bat but with Ensberg coming back hopefully tomarrow that might give the offense all it needs to get fully back in order.

EDIT: also having Berkman come back soon too
The Natspos made a risky move hanging on to Soriano. We won't be able to tell if that was a good move or not until this winter. If they can sign him to a long term extension, they were smart for not trading. But if he leaves, they left a lot of value they could have gotten in return for him on the table.

I personally think they'll re-sign him.
The Nats will resign Soriano, and im actually glad the O's didnt give up Tejada. IMO they have to be blown away by a deal to trade him. Contrary to what JFlight said that Astros deal was weak for the best hitting shortstop in the game. I actually didnt realize they offered Oswalt, but Ensberg and Everett are garbage IMO. The Angels deal was closer to what we wanted but The O's wanted Wood instead of Aybar.
Apparently if the Orioles had accepted the 'Stros offer they would have shipped Oswalt to the Reds. I am seriously p'oed right now. 04-chairshot 03-hissyfit 04-chairshot
Im glad that trade didnt go through. If it did and Pettitte doesnt come back next year, the stros would be left with the worst pitching rotation in all of baseball

wait, you think ensberg is garbage, but you think hillenbrand is a heck of a hitter? what is your grading system?
just not enough sellers in the market this year.

I don't understand the facination with Wood. He is vastly overrated. He strikes out like it is his job and he hasn't been that great above low A ball. He does have great power and he could capitalize on the mistakes that the 19-21 year old pitchers made. He has holes in his swing and when he fills out he won't even be able to play SS anymore. His only plus tool is power right now, that doesn't bode well for his future.

have you seen him play? because i'm getting the feeling every time you talk about a prospect, it's an analysis copied word for word from the prospect handbook. your posts definitely read like that.

I've got the handbook and I've read up on most of the top and mid level prospects. I do look at a lot of stats and Wood hasn't been that impressive at double a this year. But I don't just copy my posts word for word from the handbook if thats what you think. I don't even look at it when I post, it is very useful though.
I just re-read my posts about Brandon Wood and Lastings Milledge and your right about that. Guess I'm brainwashed from reading this book way to much. Minor league baseball consumes way to much of my time, I need to get a life 01-wingedeagle lmfao
