1. Reyes - .302 7 HR 34 RBI
2. Beltran - .286 19 HR 56 RBI
3. Soriano - .278 24 HR 51 RBI
4. Pujols - .315 26 HR 67 RBI
5. Wright - .337 18 HR 64 RBI
6. Bay - .290 20 HR 55 RBI
7. Utley - .288 13 HR 43 RBI
8. Lo Duca - .280 3 HR 22 RBI
Does this sound like the correct line up???
That is a really great YOUNG line up.
NL has all the 20-something stars

awesome, except it's too bad loduca's winning. he's not the best catcher.
the weird thing is that only him and ausmus have enough ab's to qualify for stats
TailgateTiger Wrote:the weird thing is that only him and ausmus have enough ab's to qualify for stats
estrada doesn't?
nope he is like ten at bats off
brad ausmus is qualified with 218 at-bats

that sucks. i wonder how many catchers garner plans on taking.
Qualified or not, Brian McCann should be starting. He's got the best average of all the NL catchers (.352), and despite being hurt for a few weeks, he still has more home runs and and the same number of RBI as LoDuca.

i agree. unfortunately, it looks like loduca will start, which means if garner carries 3 C's, either mccann, estrada or ausmus will be left off.
hey hes better then piazza last year

lmfao
one out of eight aint bad
Brandon Phillips over Utley. Higher avg. 310>288 and same amount of rbi's, more steals and a much better fielder.

the second i saw you had made the most recent post, i knew it would be some drivel about phillips over utley. at this point though, i'd say i probably agree. utley is a much better player, and has much better plate prescence, but phillips has probably been a bit better this year.

I don't necessarily think that Utley is a better player than Phillips but you have to give him the nod because he has produced at a high level for a few years longer than Phillips.
On Lo Duca, he does not deserve it in the slightest. My list: 1. Estrada 2. McCann 3. David Ross
Also, am I the only person that think David Wright is going to be a first ballot hall of famer? This kid is so great at such a young age.

i thought you were giving the nod to phillips? i'm confused.
i agree, loduca doesn't deserve it, but he'll be voted in, so we should just stop complaining, this happens every year. remember cliff floyd's last year with the marlins and he got snubbed and everyone was up in arms? this happens every year.
Yeah, wright is crazy good. he and reyes are like the human torch right now.
JFlight21 Wrote:I don't necessarily think that Utley is a better player than Phillips
Phillips is better than Utley? Come on, let's be real. Phillips is having a nice year, but Utley will go down as one of the greatest second basemen of all-time more than likely.
BTW, here's why McCann should be starting over Estrada...
McCann: 162 AB's, .352 average, 5 HR, 22 RBI, 22 R, .412 OBP, .519 SLG, .931 OPS
Estrada: 204 AB's, .309 average, 6 HR, 41 RBI, 24 R, .329 OPB, .466 SLG, .795 OPS
Estrada does have a big edge in RBI, but not enough to make up the huge difference in average, OBP and OPS. Of course, I'm biased towards McCann since he's, like, my favorite player.
But it's moot since LoDuca has it in the bag.

Let me explain. I have all the BA prospect books dating back to maybe 2000. In 2002 and 2003 Brandon Phillips was a consensus top 15 prospect. He was being compared to Derek Jeter and Barry Larkin, two likely hall of fame players. Phillips underachieved, much like Utley did before he figured it out at the age of 25. Phillips was 21 when he reached the majors and now he is 25 and he is playing like the all star he was supposed to be.
While they have comparable stats this year, Utley has done it for longer so I think that makes him the better player. But Brandon has been better this year.

I am, but I am giving the nod to Utley as far as who the better player is right now..

Actually, Utley never underachieved. He raked all throughout the minors, he just had a later start in pro ball than Phillips because he played college baseball at UCLA.

I understand your point about Phillips and it's a valid one. He'll probably put together a solid career and make a few All-Star Games. I just consider Utley an amazing talent.

Throughout the minors Utley was hitting in the .265 range.

yeah, but his first full season in the minors was his only weak one. after it, he had at least an .800 OPS every other season.
speaking of utley he just hit a solo shot off papelbon in the ninth to tie it at 6.
flyingswoosh Wrote:speaking of utley he just hit a solo shot off papelbon in the ninth to tie it at 6.
Is that Papelbon's first blown save of the year?
JFlight21 Wrote:Throughout the minors Utley was hitting in the .265 range.
He had a .283 career minor league average and was a consistent run producer at every stop.
I just always thought Utley was a better prospect than Phillips, who I considered overhyped and overrated. Although, again, I do think Phillips will carve out a good career now that he's harnessed his talent.

nah, it's that bum's second. ;-)
I wonder if Papelbon's got a shot at the Cy Young. I doubt it, but his numbers are eyepopping (although today hurts them slightly).

i think his best shot will have less to do with him and more to do with the AL starters. when contreras's numbers come back down to earth, papelbon's will look better to the committee.
will you finally admit utley's better than phillips? utley's stats are infinitely better.
When did I say that Phillips is better than Utley? I just thought Phillips was having a better first half. I never expected Phillips to hit .320 the rest of the year. He is still around .290 8 jacks and 50 rbi's with 17 steals. He also plays the best second base in the major leagues. Pretty good for a PTBNL.

i guess i'm deluded. very possible.
