04-jawdrop Don't you think it'd just be smarter to leave it where it is?
dont fix what aint broke
They already finish in April, and they want to add another week? Its suppose to be MARCH Madness, and you're already pushing the term.
The field is already near 128 teams when you consider the 40 that get invited to the NIT. 128 is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too many teams in the tourney.
They'll do this OVER doing a playoff for 1a football?

I call shenanigans

in your eyes, how big would this football playoff field be?

anything would be better then 2, which leaves room for multiple champions. every level of football-from middle school to every divison of college to pro...EXCEPT Division 1A-the biggest. WTF?

but if there was 16 teams, wouldn't that end up being 16 games for some teams? don't you think that's too many for college players?

I-AA teams play 15 if they reach the championship game. Is that too many games?

If the I-A committee decided on not being greedy and allowed I-A schools to play 12 games every season, a 16 team playoff would mean that the two I-A schools that reached the title game would be playing their 15th game of the year.

oh, i didn't know they did it in the lower divisions.

not that the teams couldn't do it, but doesn't a 16 team playoff mean 4 games for the final 2? making the total 16 games. right?

see that reason makes no sense. the lower divisions do it...and last time I checked they are college players also. so there is no reason not to do it in Div 1

Actually, depending on the conference, it could be 17 games...

12 Regular Season
1 Conference Championship Game (ACC, Big XII, C-USA, MAC, SEC)
1 First Round Game
1 Quarterfinal Game
1 Semifinal Game
1 Championship Game

But, they go 14 now with a conference championship and bowl game. If we went back to 11 game regular seasons, then it would only be 2 more games than they play now-- and there's only two teams that actually will go that far, anyway. And 2 more that would play 15. Everyone else would play, at most, the same 14 that they are fine with now...

that wasnt an attack on you. you didnt know. but many ppl say that-including the NCAA. that is flawed logic.

Here's an explanation of the I-AA playoffs:

It'd just be one extra round, so the tourney would only be two days longer.

but to make it 6 days longer, wouldn't they have to play 6 days in a row at the start instead of 4? because you couldn't do 2 days for the 1st round then have 5 days off and then do the 2nd round, could you?

Good point.
I'd say to be fair that it would be the top 32 teams in the country. Seeding based on Rank, Conference Champ (via record and/or championship game), and SOS. Bowl eligible teams that are non-conference champion teams must be 7-5 and have >=6 1A wins. Any other that fit the criteria but are not in the top 32 could play "______" bowls.

You use all current bowls to host games. and Rotate the final championship game around to the B4 Bowls as they do now (Orange, Fiesta, Sugar, Rose). And each bowl only hosts one game in a playoff bracket.
To me there aint any point in having more than 8 teams in a college football playoff. Anything else would take to dagone long.

If anyone can tell me a scenario where there would be more than eight teams with legitimate title aspirations I will listen. But think about it there are 112 (I believe) teams in D I football compared to over 300 in basketball. Believe it or not the BCS produces some pretty believable rankings. The BCS ranking system is good, its just the end result sucks.
