Dawn of the Dead
Synopsis: Zombies take over the world and only a small gang can escape to saftey.
Plot/story: Nurse has her BF turn Zombie and she escapes him.... runs into others that are running from teh Zombies. First to run into her is Ving Rhames character. They meet Mekhi Pfeifer(sp?) and his small band of survivors. This WHOLE group makes its way to a mall that is "secure." There they meet with 3 mall security guards who are having definate infereiority complexes (aka rent-a-cop-itis lol). Well the leader of the Mall Cops is a real prick. Basically then a lot of group bonding stuff happens. Then while on the roof of the mall to paint a SOS sign the see another survivor on the roof of his gun shop. They also take in some others that are seen driving a Enterprise rent a truck type deal. they let them into the mall and they become part of their band of "rebels." at this point the make attempt to break for saftey after doing some A-Team level stuff to Mall shuttles. I'll leave out the last little bit as its kind of critical to the sroy of how the movie ends. THis movie has some pretty gory/graphic head shots --Zombies have to be shot in the head ...and burned!!!
basically if you enjoy gun violence and lots dead zombies--from head shots you will enjoy this movie. Its not really scary as it is gory/violent.
Verdict: Good rental if you like such.... I wouldn't but it
#2 Bloodrayne
Synopsis: A Damphere (a Vampire vampire hunter) seeks revenge on her dad for raping and killing here mom.
Story: Kristanna Lokken (female Terminator in T3 -- rrrrrrrrrrrrr) plays Rayne the damphere. She meets up with like minded individuals that are wanting to kill off the vampires as well. This band is made up of Micheal Madsen and Michelle Rodriguez of note. The main vampire they want is played by Ben Kinglsy.
If you like Blade, Underworld, et all then you will probabbly like this movie. It appears to be a big budget Direct to Video movie b/c I don't remeber it coming to theaters but I could be wrong. Pretty good action and violence....special effects are good in some parts weak in others. Kristanna has a nudy scene
A lot of good fighting with guns, swords, and fists. I think the swordplay is probabbly the best I have seen in the new vampire movies.
Basically if you like Blade and Underworld movies and/or want to see Kristana naked then you will like this movie.
Verdict:
Good rental if you are in the above category... I don;t think it is a buyable movie.
# 3 Glory Road
Synopsis: Texas Western( UTEP now of CUSA fame ) and a starting 5 of blacks beats Adolph Rupps Kentucky Wildcats for the national title.
Story: Don Haskins goes from coaching HS girls bball to head coach at TxW. While observing the current talent pool decides taht some major recruiting needs to be done. He wants the best players out there but all the good white players tell him no thanks and thus he goes for the talented black kids who via racisim aren't getting recruited. Builds a team around the new talent goes almost undefeated and then in the NCAA finals starts the first ever all Black starting 5 and only plays his black players in the game to end any discussion of Blacks can't play at the D1 level. Of course you have the team differences, training montage, team struggles, stuff in between.
Overall a very solid movie. The interviews with the actuall players in teh special features of the dvd are a great watch.
Verdict:
Definately a good rental ..buyable if you are really into sports movies...especially basketball. (FTR I love Hoosioers, Remeber the Titans, Friday Night Lights Miracle, and Field of Dreams. I thought He Got Game, Blue Chips, and Varsity Blues were OK.
#4 Firewall
Synopsis: Harrison Ford as a IT secuirty professional gets blackmailed into robbing his own bank.
Story: Well.... basically Harrisson's bank is about to get into a merger and he doesn't like it. Also hates the new IT guy that is for the merger. Well his buddy the Head of Security sets him wit this other bank dude that would like to hire his services played by Paul Bettany. IT kind of takes off from there as to how the robbery goes and who is involved. I will leave these details out since its the main point of watching the movie.
My only beef with the movie is that its called Firewall and deals w/ IT stuff yet there is no talk of computer firewalls throughout the entire movie. Also the end is kind of lacking...it should have tied abck into the bank somehow IMO.
Verdict
decent rental.... NOT a buyable movie.
