Who will win the Stanley Cup?
Canes in 7
what's the stanley cup?
Tonight should be interesting. I don't think these two teams faced each other all season, so there should be a period of them feeling out each other.
I got Oilers in 6. I've watched them the entire postseason and they are playing great right now. The Oilers are not your typical 8 seed. They are loaded.
flyingswoosh Wrote:what's the stanley cup?

NHL aka National Hockey League aka Pro Hockey's championship trophy.

IN defense of swoosh I could actually see someone asking that...I can't remeber the trophy name for the NBA or the NFL. I think the NFL one is the Vince Lopmbardi Trophy.

It was either a joke on his part or he is retarded. I am not going to ask which one.

Your thread reads "NHL Finals" and then asks in the poll "Who wins the Stanley Cup?" Simple deduction would lead one to figure out that the winner of the NHL would get the Stanley Cup, whether they knew what it was or not. It is reasonable to think that he or anyone who follows sports would know what the NHL is, right? There are only 4 major sports in the U.S.
it was most definitely a joke. sports center feels the same way as me. they buried Stanley Cup coverage in the second half of the show. it was like "michelle wie hits a birdie... and in other news the oilers are in raliegh to play the canes for Lord Stanley's Cup."
flyingswoosh Wrote:what's the stanley cup?

Of the 4 major sports in America, it is still the only trophy presented to the TEAM, not the owner.

hockey is a major sport? i bet the ratings would beg to differ. so what if the trophy is presented to the team, does that make the game more enjoyable?

Bad news for the Oilers. Looks as though their goalie is out for the finals. Tough blow because he was outstanding in the net.

hockey is a major sport?

Yes
i guess i've just always considered there to be only 3 major sports in this country.
Major sport? consider this: the 1st game of the stanley cup finals got lower ratings than the arizona/northwestern women's softball championship!! as if that wasn't enough, the hockey game got an estimated 611,000 viewers. You call that a major sport?
its on OLN. it would have gotten better ratings on a real station. the Stanley Cup has been won since the 1880's. in the Northeast-its THE sport. I got friends in many different areas up there-it is to them what college basketball is to NC, Indiana, Kentucky. hell, hockey has gotten popular in the basketball crazed Triangle.

yeah having it OLNfor hte Stanley cup finals ..even if it is the first 2 games is a ratings FUBAR for the NHL. I'll be happy when game 3+ are on NBC.

define northeast. in NY it is certainly not THE sport.

before the lockout, hockey (which was not on OLN at the time) was getting lower ratings than pro bowling.
The Tour de France is going to blow the NHL away in ratings. I wish the Tour was a few weeks earlier to see how they would go head-to-head.

are you talking about US ratings only? i mean, i'm sure the tour will beat the NHL in the US, but it won't blow it away. where it will do that is in the world ratings.

um, up and right on a map. you should really learn your geography

thanks, a**. what i meant is that the most well known state in the northeast is not a hockey state. So i wanted to know what he was talking about. calm down buddy.
hopefully Canes go up 2 games tonight!

the "he" is me. I was talking about PA and Mass. according to my friends in Minn, its that big to-dont know if that is the Northeast, but its close enough.
The NFL is more popular than the NHL in the northeast (by and large). So is MLB.

Let's GO CANES!!!!! TAKE GAME 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Canes up 3-0 in second game with about a minute left in the 2nd period! Bring the Cup south, boys!

Interesting side note: They were discussing about the discussions to move the Oilers that took place in the 90s, and they said one of the places discussed, was... Raleigh. Interesting turn of events.
dont you just love Redneck Hockey? we have cheerleaders!

see, thats why I put my name in the sig-just for you!! 03-razz
It's ridiculous that I can't even watch the Stanley Cup finals on my basic cable package here at school.

Why the **** isn't hockey on a normal channel? Instead I get the spelling bee or the 500th re run of Worlds Strongest Man.

Someone really screwed up handling the NHL tv package.
4-0 Canes!!

too bad it doesn't mean sh** in this series....Canes can score/give up just as much. 03-weeping ;-)

Its ESPN and the rest of cable television getting scared off by the lockout. It should be on NBC for the rest of the championship.

Somebody needs to check the relative positions of Tampa and Raleigh on a map...
I was in FL for 4 months. the only Southern accent I heard was my aunts. Florida is not Southern.
