i just noticed that brandon phillips pinch hit an 0 for, and he is now hitting .298. so now i say we all guess what his final average will be. i say .257.
JFlight21 Wrote:He was at around .280 a few weeks ago. Then he went on a tear and got it back up to .315. That along with his 10 sbs and over 30 ribbies and he deserves to start in the all star game.
JFlight21 Wrote:Who do you have at 2nd base then??
Among regular starting 2nd basemen in the national league:
Phillips is:
5th in avg
2nd in rbi's
5th in home runs
1st in stolen bases
And he is probaly the best defensive 2nd basemen in the national league.

utley, plain and simple. he's a guy who's gotten better as the season has worn on. phillips has gone progressively downhill. Finally, how can you have phillips starting over utley? utley is about a million times better hitter. i think any NL fan would rather see utley starting.
i also think vidro should be the second 2nd baseman.

Ok, Phillips is a million times better fielder than Utley and is much more of a threat on the basebaths. Phillips hasn't been progressively downhill, he has just been extremely streaky. He was at .340 for a few weeks, then he dropped to 280 then he got back up to 315 and now he is back at 300.

or you could look at his month by month stats.
it's not like utley is a bad fielder, he's just not as good as phillips. but if anybody wanted to see fielding in the AS game, jack wilson would be in it every year.

What's your point? He doesn't walk much. It's not like he hits leadoff every day. He has been stuck in the 7 and 8 hole almost the entire year.

my point is, don't you consider OBP to be a part of hitting?

Yeah I do, but I think you lost my point. I consider Phillips the best ALL-
AROUND 2nd basemen in the NL. If you think I'm going to try and argue that Brandon is a better hitter than Utely, then your mistaken. Because I won't, I'm not that clueless.
JFlight21 Wrote:Uggla's a hell of a second basemen from what I've seen. But yeah, I give more weight to hitting than fielding when it comes to selecting All-Stars.GDawgs88 Wrote:Top three second basemen in the National League this year...

I think you should change that to, top three hitting second basemen in the NL
JFlight21 Wrote:Guess what Swoosh?? Phillips is back up to .316. So, Brandon has the same batting average as Utley and the same amount of rbis (36).
