Full Version: Dontrelle to the Reds??

Ken Rosenthal mentioned that in his column today.

Marlins get:
Homer Bailey
Edwin Encarnacion

Reds get:
Dontrelle Willis

I don't want that trade at all. Edwin has been our best hitter so far and is showing why he will be a perrinial all star and Homer is our best pitching prospect in probaly 30 years.

are you kidding? of course you should take that trade. you sure don't need the hitting, as you lead the league in runs and homer bailey hasn't even been great for a full season. in return you'd get a cy young caliber pitcher. if i was the reds GM, i'd do that in an instant.
I would also do that trade. Dontrelle would give your staff instant credibility. You have a rotation with Willis, Arroyo and Harang as the top three and suddenly you're pitching isn't that bad.

I heard the Marlins asked the Mets for David Wright, straight-up, for Dontrelle Willis. If all they want from the Reds is Encarnacion and Bailey, I'd go for it in a second. You're giving up two largely unproven (yes, talented, but unproven) for a certified ace. How many of those have the Reds had lately?

Swoosh I think you might understand if you were a Reds fan. Here is a list of the potential ace busts that the Reds have had.....

Ty Howington
Chris Gruler
Ricardo Ambroles
Brian Reith
Rob Bell
Richie Gardner
Jeremy Sowers==>drafted but no signed
Ryan Wagner==>closer of the future has done awful

Reds fans want to see a homegrown pitcher succeed. Whether it is Travis Wood or Homer Bailey this organization needs a homegrown ace, and I am betting on Bailey.

Give up Kearns, Ryan Wagner and BJ Syzmanski.

Encarnacion and Homer Bailey are THE future of the Reds.
but isn't it just as good when your homegrown talent yields you awesome players whether it be by bringing them up or trading them.
JFlight, I think you just proved why the Reds should make this trade. Look at all those names. Guys who are supposed to be "future aces" and never pan out are a dime a dozen. There's a good chance Bailey could be the next in that list. D-Train is a proven ace. It would hurt to give up Encarnacion, but you've still got enough offense without him.

And that proposal of Kearns, Wagner and Syzmanski wouldn't work. Kearns is league-average and Wagner's been a bust. You'd need to give up more than that.

How about Wagner, Jay Bruce and Bailey for Willis?

BTW, how's Bubba Nelson doing with the Reds? He was supposed to be a stud for the Braves. Guess he never panned out either.

As I mentioned earlier, Homer threwa 6 inning no hitter last night. He is going to be an absolute stud, if he maxes out his potential he will be better than Dontrelle. 97 MPH fastball 12-6 curve, if he doesn't get hurt he will be a #1 starter for a long time.

Dunn and a minor leaguer for Willis.

How about Dunn to the Braves for Adam LaRoche, Anthony Lerew and Jarrod Saltalamacchia?

I forgot to add that out of that list Gruler, Gardner, Ambroles and Howington had major arm surgery and Reith was brought up way too early.

No chance they give up Bruce AND Bailey. Bailey is our future ace and Bruce is our heir apparent to Griffey.

I think Bubba Nelson go released, partially for a DUI but mostly for him being god awful.
wow, i feel bad for you. you seem so sure that bailey is going to be great. if bailey has a better career than willis, i'll eat my hat.

I agree with you that all Homer had going for him last year was his potential as his ERA was around 4 and he was walked hitters at an insane rate but this year it looks like he has put it together.

ERA at 3.08 in 26.1 innings with 29 k's and 7 bb's and his whip is under 1.

Maybe I've been brainwashed. Former Red's great Mario Soto was saying that Homer could be in the majors right now and Chris Sabo said he had the best stuff he had ever seen.
i'm not sure if you know, but in double A, jerome williams was compared to a young dwight gooden.

I didn't know that he was compared to a young Dwight Gooden but I know that Jerome Williams was supposed to be a stud.

I do realize that the chances of Homer Bailey being an ace like he is projected to be are around 10-15% but I can't wait to see him pitch. I'm sure you have someone in the Giants organization that you would hate to see traded. Maybe Matt Cain?? That's how I feel about Homer.

the difference is, cain's actually done something. but that aside, if we had a chance to trade cain for willis, i'd do it in a second.

The difference being that you guys would be a playoff ballclub. The Red's would still be on the fence with our god awful bullpen.

The reds chance to be great is when Wood, Bailey, Bruce, Lopez, and Encarnacion are all starting in the majors.

the reds could get dontrelle and then put all their efforts into drafting or signing some relievers.

damn, i thought bailey did all this double A? i just found out he's in high A. damn, he's a long way away. how could you tell me he's ready for the majors already? how many kids jump from high A and succeed.
As much as I want to see Bailey come up through the minors to one day pitch for the Reds, I'd have to agree that the trade looks pretty good. But who's gonna play 3B if the Reds trade away Encarnacion? Aurilia? Freel? I suppose it'd still work out ok, especially if it means they get a bonafide Ace on the pitching staff.

As intriguing as this trade may be, I seriously doubt it will ever come to fruition.

I never said he was major league ready.

didn't you tell me that there's some guy who thinks he can pitch in the bigs right now? tell me if i'm wrong, i have a headache and i don't feel like going through all the posts.

I don't think he's ready but Mario Soto thinks he could pitch in the majors right now based on his stuff.
