he just blew the game today with a GS to Nomah and his ERA is 6.97. I'm not basing this question on the first 2 weeks of the season, but on how many innings he's thrown in the past couple years.
2003- 85.0 IP
2004- 95.2 (playoffs as well)
2005- 71.2 (playoffs again)
Well up until tonight he had converted 7/7 saves. The main problem he has been having is his location has been off which has made watching his outings nervewracking to say the least.

As far as him being burned out I dont know, it doesnt seem like it to me, just loss of command.

is his velocity down?
I wouldn't worry. He's got 15 K's in 10.2 innings which tells me he's still overpowering hitters. But he's been "wild in the strike zone" a little bit. He's just left a few balls over the plate and has gotten punished, but he won't make those mistakes all year.

The one Nomar hit out was clocked at 96mph, so I doubt his velocity is down. I hope we don't have to see him much when the 'stros come to down next week to play the Reds.

oh, ok. i haven't watched him.
Yeah his velocity has been fine, I am not that worried about him.

i guess you're more positive than i am.

BTW, our awesome new reliever i told you about a few days ago, has gone on the DL after one appearance, with a strained oblique. It's amazing how many oblique injuries occur nowadays.
brad lidge sucked again tonight.

Too bad, I was looking forward to seeing Wilson pitch. I met him when he played in Augusta last year - good guy.
you met him? that's pretty cool.
Yeah, we chatted for a few minutes. He's a cool dude. And absolutely dominated in the minors last year, too.

yeah, that's why he shot up the ladder so quickly.
He didnt pitch that bad

1st batter walk
Stole 2nd
K'ed next batter for 1st out
wild pitch got 1st batter to 3rd
Walk
Intential Walk
RBI Sac fly
Strikeout

now the game is currently 3-3 in the 14th inning and our bats have just gone cold

Still not vintage Lidge, though.

2 walks in one innings is kind of a problem.
yeah, he has been having problems locating his slider
Come to think of it, I may start to worry a little bit about Lidge. Closers simply don't last long in this game, and his time as a dominant closer may have come and gone. We'll see.
this could definitely be a little slump. but one thing that is a fact, is the amount of innings he's thrown over the past 3 years.
Currently in the longest regular season game in Minute Maid Park history

I can think of one game that wasn't in the regular season that was longer. Then again I choose not to think about that one much.
I loved that game, but this one is the "we cant hit with the bases loaded game"
woot Astros win 4-3 in 14 innings
i just read that lidge hasn't recorded a 1-2-3 inning yet this season. the writer contests the reason teams are hitting him is because of familiarity. the writer said he's been playing NL central teams and these teams know him well. is that true? i'm not in the mood to go looking at who brad lidge has pitched against.
The only NL Central teams the Astros have faced this season were the pirates and brewers

4/17 Brewers 1 inning, 1 hit, 1 K
4/18 Brewers 1.2 innings 2 hits, 2 runs, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 HR
4/21 Pirates 1 inning, 2 hits, 1 run, 1 BB, 2 K
4/22 Pirates 0.1 innings, 1 K

The announcers at the game last night said a lot of the dodger hitters have good career numbers against Lidge.

it's interesting that those are the 2 worst teams in the central.
Lidge came out tonight and threw a 123 inning with 2ks against the Brewers for his 9th save.

well, let's see if he can get back in the old groove.
i heard lidge blew another save last night.
He blew it due to an error by Ensberg on a throw to first base that allowed the tieing run to score. They ended up losing that game because of a bases loaded walk by Wheeler.

oh, so it wasn't a blown save?
Offically it is a blown save because Lidge put the runner to get to 2nd but the error was what allowed him to score.
Yesterday Lidge came in the 9th and gave up one run while walking 3 to load the bases with 2 outs. Wheeler then came in and saved the game.

Tonight Garner put Lidge in the 7th and he pitched a 123 inning with 1K on route to a 12-2 win.

In other news Everett has yet to commit an error, and Ausmus (career .257) is batting .347 so far this season.
Lidge got the save tonight allowing 1 hit and striking out 2 on route to a 5-3 win. It looks like he has his command back which makes me happy.
lidge just blew his second game in a row tonight. he came into a tie game in the 12th and proceeded to give up 2 runs. i think it's safe to say he isn't the same pitcher he used to be.
yeah Lidge has not been pitching well but I dont blame him for tonights loss. The baserunning and hitting with RISP was appalling. That game should have never gone into the 12 inning.

for sure. i'm just saying he's not what he used to be.
You are very right about that
